On Wednesday we celebrated an important milestone in the building of our new campus in Connersville. Reid Health held a topping-out ceremony, a long-standing construction tradition signifying the highest point of the structure with the placement of the topmost beam in the facility’s elevator shaft. The 106,715-square-foot facility currently under construction at 2500 Park Road will be the home of an Emergency Department with adjacent helipad, radiology services, a pharmacy, laboratory services, and a mix of primary and specialty care options. Thanks to everyone who came out to help us celebrate! Photos of the celebration are available on Reid’s Facebook page at https://lnkd.in/gVu9YQnq. To learn more about the topping-out ceremony and some changes coming to practice locations once the new building is open, go to https://lnkd.in/gvuu3tiq.

Reid Health's nursing team hosted an event to bring their families closer together and kick off the holiday season on Dec. 1. 🎄🎟️🔔Family members were invited to dress in Christmas pajamas and received a golden ticket and magic jingle bell as they watched Polar Express and enjoyed snacks. Additional activities included coloring, making ornaments, and pin the heart on the Grinch. There was also a visit from the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, and Santa Claus! We appreciate our medical staff and all they do for our patients during the holiday season and every day of the year.

It's the little moments that Tracy Winslow enjoys most about her role as a member of the Environmental Services team at Reid Health, working primarily in the Family Birthing Center. "Seeing a new family have their first child or siblings meeting their brother or sister just makes my day," she said. "My mother instilled in me to do the best I can, to treat everyone with respect, and to help where I can. I love to help people, even if it's just a short conversation." Those lessons come through in the way Reid Health's Ambassador for the month of December goes about her work each day. Read more about Tracy at https://lnkd.in/ec5EcvNt. And help us congratulate her in the comments below!

We’re celebrating two of Reid Health’s women leaders recognized as award honorees at the signature event for Girls Inc. of Wayne County on Nov. 15, “Painting Her a Bright Future.” Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Anna Osborn-Brown RN, MSN, Senior Director of Inpatient Nursing of Emergency and Urgent Care, is this year’s Smart honoree, and Jess Przybysz, Director of Community Health & Benefit, is the Inspiring honoree. Every day their efforts improve the lives of others and inspire girls. At the dinner, Anna shared the women in her life taught her resilience, compassion, and perseverance. From them she learned to find the beauty in everyday moments and to use those treasured moments as fuel to push through barriers and challenges, she said. “No matter how demanding life becomes, continuing to grow, to learn, and to deepen your education as it aligns with your passion is invaluable,” Anna said. “Using your education and expertise to serve other people when it counts is one place that I’ve been able to find meaning and enjoyment in life. It’s what enables us to make a lasting impact on the world around us.” Jess shared she overcame an unstable home life as a child but thrived by finding glimmers of hope to become the woman she is today. Glimmers helped her find her gift to inspire others while healing through motivation, encouragement, or to find their passion. To her, inspiring others means to spark a sense of hope, to have empathy, listening to understand, and connecting with people to help them find their purpose. “Throughout my life I’ve always found what I call glimmers of hope…I’m certain these glimmers are given to girls every single day at Girls Inc. because I’ve been lucky enough to have observed staff giving them. To the staff, just know that without you realizing it, you’ve given girls these glimmers that’ll follow the girls their whole lives. Keep being the inspiration they need to grow up and chase their dreams. The inspiration they need to be a cycle breaker, like me.” Congratulations, Anna and Jess! 📷: Josh Smith Photography

What’s suturing like? How do you resuscitate a baby? For 55 area high school students, hands-on activities and an opportunity to talk with healthcare professionals helped to answer their questions while exploring future careers on Thursday. Reid Health’s 2024 Healthcare Career Expo welcomed juniors and seniors from Richmond, Centerville, Hagerstown, and Seton high schools to talk to medical and support staff members from 15 departments. Students also toured the Laboratory, Radiology, Nursing, and Engineering/Powerplant areas. ▪️ Hands-on activities included: ▪️ Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR ▪️ IV/Port access with a bed manikin ▪️ Skeleton display with a view box with X-ray ▪️ Suturing for students to try different stiches ▪️ Meeting trained therapy dogs, Hanna and Nala ▪️ Tactile table with Moon Sand and Orbeez ▪️ A word puzzle ▪️ Barium swallow test to try liquids. The procedure is designed to determine whether food or liquid is entering a person's lungs. Indiana University East and Ivy Tech Community College Richmond were also available to answer questions on academic programs for health and industry professions. When David Carrell responds to a call for help, Reid Health staff know just what to expect from him. “He’s the hardest working person I know,” a co-worker said. “He’ll do anything to help anyone, even if it isn’t his job. David does his job with integrity and compassion for the safety of the patients and staff.” Reid Health’s Ambassador for the month of November has been a plumber with the organization’s Engineering Department for the past eight years. He’s an integral part of all things plumbing, including fire suppression, new renovations, and kitchen equipment repairs and changes. Read more about David at https://lnkd.in/gtdTg_Gq. Sharrie Harlin, Manager of Community Engagement for Reid Health, started Medical Monday when she worked for the Minority Health Coalition and maintained the event after joining Reid. This November, Medical Monday celebrates 15 years as a resource for the community to provide information on health issues, community programs, and preventive screenings. Thriving Thursday was added in Connersville five years ago this month, and both events have loyal followings, averaging 40 to 50 guests each month. The event is celebrating its fifth anniversary in November. For more on both events and how to register to attend, read https://lnkd.in/giVuE7Yx.

Reid Health is proud to partner with Ivy Tech Community College – Richmond as the campus celebrates the completion of the Debra Edelman Healthcare Education Center. The remodeled second floor of Johnson Hall provides a healthcare simulation center to develop the nurses and healthcare providers of the future. "We're grateful for Ivy Tech Richmond's forward thinking and work to create a space that encourages and trains our future nurses and other clinicians. This space will be valuable for high school students who might be exploring nursing, college students who are acquiring skills alongside trained faculty, and seasoned caregivers who might be learning new skills." -- Misti Foust-Cofield, Vice President/Chief Nursing Officer for Reid Health For more on the two-year transformation of the space, the equipment, and the programs available to students, read https://lnkd.in/g_Tn3sHC
