About us
RETRIEVE aims to combine PV upstream value chain organizations with beyond state-of-the-art recycling processes and techniques to improve circularity within the PV sector. RETRIEVE targets the upcycling of the components of the End of Life (EoL) solar panels, enhancing the material quality to meet current requirements for reintroduction into the PV value chain. RETRIEVE will increase the circularity and minimize the environmental impact of the PV industry by: - Developing and demonstrating cost effective recycling technologies for the different components of a solar module - Recycling glass to current PV specifications - Purifying production waste and EoL silicon to solar grade quality - Recovering silver and heavy metals - Conducting valorisation of polymer with carbon capture.Recycling glass to current PV specifications This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No 101122332.

Pioneering Recycling Techniques for End-of-Life Solar Panels ♻️ We’re thrilled to share a new publication from the RETRIEVE partners Institute for Energy Technology and Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics CSP that addresses the pressing challenge of recycling end-of-life photovoltaic (EoL PV) panels. This research presents a new, multi-stage and efficient method to recover valuable materials like silver (Ag) and silicon (Si), bringing new approaches in solar panel recycling🌞 🔑 Key highlights: 💠Two-step leaching process that achieves: • 99% aluminum recovery at room temperature • 99% silver extraction with >99.9% purity • Obtaining the silicon with 99.83% purity 💠 Comprehensive approach to mitigate lead (Pb) in recycling processes using ion exchange resins. 💠 Process flowsheet for efficient material recovery and waste management. This method not only recovers valuable resources but also helps their effective reuse in the production of next-generation solar panels, aligning with the RETRIEVE Project’s mission to enhance circularity in the PV industry. 📄 Dive deeper into the findings and see the full process flowsheet here: https://lnkd.in/d8XesJt5 James Mwase, Stefanie Wahl, Sylke Meyer, Duygu Yilmaz #RETRIEVEProject #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SolarEnergy #Innovation #PhotovoltaicRecycling

Exciting Discussions at the PowerShift Summit in Bucharest! 🔋 We had a fantastic time presenting the RETRIEVE Project at the #PowerShiftSummit, showcasing our innovative approach to recycling end-of-life photovoltaic (PV) panels. The workshop brought together industry leaders to explore the future of upcycling PV panels and advancing a circular economy. Our coordination team — Carlos Escudero-Oñate, Rune Søndenå, and Duygu Yilmaz — shared insights on emerging trends and the importance of maintaining material quality to meet industry standards. And yes, that glass of water Carlos is holding? He humorously pointed out that, just like this crystal-clear glass, we aim for recycled glass to maintain PV-grade purity and quality — the RETRIEVE will not be downgraded for bottles or other low value glass items! 😄 We were also joined by Daniela Blažejová from SolarPower Europe, who contributed her valuable insights into innovation along the PV recycling value chain. Huge thanks to our friends Irene M. and Adriana Petre for inviting us! RPIA - Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association, RWEA - Romanian Wind Energy Association. The summit highlighted the growing need for advanced recycling technologies, perfectly aligning with our project’s goals of sustainable material recovery and minimizing waste in the PV sector. #RETRIEVEProject #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #SolarEnergy #Innovation #PowerShift2024
