The energy transition – a burden to industry or a chance for energy innovations? Exciting news to share! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced last Tuesday that PDX Clean Industry Network was one of 23 teams to win a CONCEPT phase of the American-Made Community Energy Innovation Prize. This team includes the City of Portland’s Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, Columbia Corridor Association, Portland State University Institute for Sustainable Solutions, Prosper Portland, Energy 350, OSU Industrial Assessment Center, Center for Sustainable Infrastructure, Worksystems and OMIC R&D. If you are not familiar with industrial symbiosis, it’s a resource sharing model for industry in which one business’ excess energy, water, or waste becomes an input for another business. This is an arena that holds a lot of promise for direct benefits to the environment, demonstrated industrial decarbonization with greenhouse gas reductions and a just transition for workers. https://lnkd.in/ghmg3GZM

We’re excited to announce that Antonio Valente, Project Manager at ecoinvent, has been selected as one of fifteen experts for the European Hydrogen Sustainability and Circularity Panel (EHS&CP).   This panel, launched by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, aims to propel the EU hydrogen sector to the forefront of sustainable and circular technologies and value chains. The EHS&CP is coordinated by Ecorys, together with TNO and Grant Thornton Greece.   Hydrogen is critical in the transition towards a climate-neutral economy and offers avenues for emission-free transport, heating, industrial processes, and inter-seasonal energy storage. However, realizing its full potential requires a holistic approach that addresses sustainability and circularity throughout its entire life cycle.   Antonio is a member of Task Force 3, which focuses on the crucial aspect of hydrogen end uses, particularly in transport and stationary power generation.
