Today’s RAF is the UK’s aerial, peacekeeping and fighting force. It’s made up of full-time Regulars and spare-time Reserves who come from diverse backgrounds and work side-by-side to make a difference at home and abroad. In 2024, personnel from 54 Squadron and 56 Squadron completed the inaugural Basic Phase Course for the RAF’s Protector RG Mk1. 🫡 The course took place at the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Flight Test & Training Centre in Grand Forks, North Dakota. With advanced equipment and precision strike weapons, Protector provides critical armed surveillance capability and will be able to deploy against potential adversaries around the globe. Today's 2024 highlight looks at the Red Arrows, who this year celebrated 60 years of dynamic and unique displays. 🔴 The nine-strong team unveiled new artwork on their Hawk jets to acknowledge this diamond anniversary. Plus, the team flew special manoeuvres that hadn’t been seen in a generation, performing 50 displays and 22 high-profile flypasts across the UK, mainland Europe and Canada. In 2024, the RAF participated in a series of large-scale air drops to deliver humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza. It’s time for another 2024 highlight… This year, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our Atlas aircraft, after the now 22-strong fleet arrived at RAF Brize Norton in 2014. 🎂 In this time, Atlas has proven itself in a range of operations, including playing a part in the military response to COVID, evacuating people from Afghanistan and Sudan, and earlier this year, air dropping humanitarian supplies to civilians in Gaza. To wrap up the year, we’ll be sharing some of our 2024 highlights over the course of the next week. ✨ Our first one looks back at our commemorations for the 80th anniversary of D-Day. With flypasts, ceremonial events, re-enactments, educational programs, and international collaborations taking place at home and abroad, RAF personnel were heavily involved in remembering the events of 1944.
