Alex was thrilled to be there to recognise and celebrate the incredible achievements of the 19 organisations being awarded Gold. We recently hosted representatives from nine of our incredible employers at a bespoke Leadership and Teamwork Experience at the Officer & Aircrew Selection Centre (OASC), RAF College Cranwell. The 24 delegates were treated to a fully interactive day undergoing elements of the selection process used to determine suitability for both Regular and Reserve Officers positions with the RAF. Each of them was able to go ‘hands on’ with the computer based aptitude testing process before being divided into syndicates to tackle the dynamic leadership challenges. All of those taking part had an incredible day and were able to see, first hand, the skills required to be a leader in the RAF. It also gave them an indication of the skills possessed by members of the RAF Reserves who work within their organisations. Imagine getting the chance to get up close and personal with the cutting edge F/A-18 Hornet. Well this is exactly what some of our employers got to experience last week as they were hosted during the arrival of several Swiss Air Force jets, coming in to take part in Exercise YORKNITE: an annual night flying exercise being co-ordinated from RAF Leeming. Sarah Chapman from Pinnacle Group, Inc. said, “The Swiss pilot was welcoming and it was interesting to learn about the international links that RAF Leeming has and how Reserve personnel support this exercise.” Robert Dawes of Labcorp said, “It was a pleasure to be hosted by the Swiss Air Force on such an informative visit.” If you have a sense of #FOMO them get in touch to discuss how your organisation could partner with defence so you could join us on similar ‘money can’t buy’ experiences in the future. Please could you all join us in welcoming our newest member of the Team, Wg Cdr Megan Machin, into the post of Air Regional Employer Engagement Officer (AREEO) for the East Midlands. Megan recently retired from the Regular RAF after 20 years service as an Engineering Officer. During this time she held a number of roles including being the Junior Engineering Officer with 216 Sqn, the engineering authority for Conway Engines in support of the, now retired, VC10 fleet and latterly the Senior Engineering Officer with 8 Sqn, working with the ISTAR Fleet. Although Megan has take a full-time role with QinetiQ she was keen to maintain her links with the RAF so the AREEO role was the perfect part-time fit. Outside of work Megan sits as a Magistrate, on the Lincolnshire crime bench as well as being a School Governor and a clerk for a local charity supporting educational opportunities for young people.
