This significant leadership transition was announced during the 53rd Annual General Meeting held on 18th September 2024 in Mumbai, signaling a new chapter for the industry. The event, attended by prominent figures including Union Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Sanjeev Chopra, served as a vital platform for discussing the pressing challenges and opportunities facing the solvent extraction sector. 𝐀 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐄𝐀 Established in 1963, The Solvent Extractors' Association of India emerged from the early 20th-century vegetable oil industry, which primarily utilized traditional ghanis for oil extraction. The first modern solvent extraction plant began operations in 1945 in Bhavnagar, leading to the formation of the SEA to address common challenges faced by its members. Today, the SEA boasts around 875 members, including 350 operational solvent extraction plants with a combined capacity of 30 million tonnes. The association represents a diverse membership that encompasses processors, exporters, and machinery manufacturers. Notably, the SEA was the first association in India to launch a dedicated website for trade information and continues to provide industry updates through newsletters and meetings.
