Updates

  • As we close out this year, we at Sandhill want to take a moment to reflect on our Christmas party at Top Golf in Ft Myers and our employee luncheon. Both of these events were made possible by our fantastic team. A special shoutout to our employee of the year, Sarah Perez, who can be seen in the third photo. She has been an example of unwavering commitment and leadership throughout this season, and we are so grateful for her contribution to our company. As we look toward the new year, we’re excited about all the opportunities and incredible things we’ll achieve together!

  • Thanks to near-perfect weather conditions, we were able to conduct a prescribed burning, which is necessary for us to collect a good crop of wiregrass seed this fall. Many thanks to Bluehead Ranch, and the burn crew who made this all possible. Along with my son Gabriel, who had to work on Father's Day with the drone, and my daughter Eden Yacovetti, who put the video together.

  • In 2020, Sandhill purchased a declining orange grove adjacent to our Native Tree Farm and Plant Nursery. Sixty acres of citrus were cleared and burned.  We began a water quality improvement project for the nursery.  After three years, we are nearing the final completion.  Instead of using the old orange grove irrigation well to irrigate our newly expanded nursery, we now use surface water from the excavated pond.  Runoff from the overhead irrigation zones is now captured in the spreader swale.  The swale is planted with native aquatic plants, which filter nutrient runoff before returning to the irrigation reservoir.  Then, the cycle repeats as the captured nutrient-filtered water is re-used to irrigate our expanded container nursery.    This expansion has tripled our nursery production.  The post and cable trellis system is nearly complete and will provide Sandhill the capacity to grow an additional 9,000 code minimum (25G) Native Trees.
