💰 Violence is not just a moral issue but also an economic one. According to the Institute for Economics & Peace’s 2023 Global Peace Index, the global economic impact of interpersonal violence was $2.6 trillion in 2022. 🧪 Despite this, there are effective and evidence-based solutions to reduce and prevent violence. 🤝 Effective prevention strategies require cross-sector collaboration—criminal justice, #health, #education, and social protection—at all levels, from local to global. 📊 By working together, focusing on data-driven approaches, and making smart investments, it is possible to not only halve violence but also reduce its economic burden. 📥 Download the full report ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eufxQPWP #SDG16Plus #HalvingGlobalViolence #HGV #SALW #ViolencePrevention #EndViolence #ActNow #NYUCIC

🌱 As the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (#COP29) takes place, we face a critical question: How can we achieve effective #ClimateAction? At Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, we have looked at some policy solutions linking the importance of Indigenous communities and the protection of lands. 💡 Dive into solutions like: 🇲🇦 Morocco’s National Energy Plans. 🇩🇪 Germany’s Green Energy Transition. 🇳🇴 Norway’s Climate Change Act Policies. 💪 These policy solutions are tools to fight for a healthy planet, avoiding a ‘greener but meaner’ society by investing in people, communities, and social protection, striving for a just #GreenTransition instead. This can address people’s uncertainties about economies, livelihoods, and environmental impacts, preventing resistance and garnering more political support. 📣 Learn more through our #InequalitySolutions Portal: https://lnkd.in/d_BQgARJ ⚒️ Explore the Inequalities-Environment Nexus toolkit: https://lnkd.in/e6ezhcN7 📮Subscribe to the Inequality Solutions newsletter: https://lnkd.in/emSxDv3K Together, we can make progress for our planet and our people. 🌍 #SDG16Plus #JustTransition #SDG13 #ClimateJustice #ActNow #COP29Baku

Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies reposted this
VIP Lab Director, Rachel Locke, was in Washington, D.C., and New York last week to talk about Peace in Our Cities. Specifically, how the international community can reinforce frameworks for global peace and security oriented around safer cities for all inhabitants. Meetings were held in Washington with The World Bank and United States Institute of Peace, while in New York we were hosted by the Swiss Mission to the United Nations. Locke discussed how global trends such as migration and climate change are being managed at the city level in ways that either reinforce peace or build foundations for violence, while simultaneously offering reasons for hope and optimism by showcasing cities in the US, such as Columbus, OH, and Boston, MA, that have achieved significant reductions in violence in recent years. Peace in Our Cities is grateful to our partners, including the Secretary of Security for the City of Bogota and the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime for partnering in these events, alongside PiOC Secretariat partners, Stanley Center for Peace and Security and Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies. #PeaceinOurCities #peacebuilding

🌟 What can be done to address justice challenges in climate-impacted communities and the root causes of displacement? Humanitarian and justice actors have to work together to: 🔊 Integrate early warning systems. 💼 Provide legal empowerment and assistance. 📝 Pursue strategic litigation. 🏘️ Prioritize community-based approaches. 📊 Collect data on climate-impacted and climate-displaced populations and the intersectionality of #ClimateChange, #justice, #inequality, and environmental (im)mobility. ⛈️ During this year’s United Nations Climate Change Conference (#COP29), the focus on #AccessToJustice for vulnerable communities within #ClimateAction has never been more critical. As we work towards implementing the ambitious pledges made at #COP28—including the transition away from #FossilFuels and tripling #RenewableEnergy—securing the necessary climate financing through this year's negotiations, especially to build resilience in vulnerable communities most at-risk for climate disasters and impacted by them. 🔍 Find out in Stacey Cram (Non-Resident Fellow, NYU Center on International Cooperation (CIC))’s latest paper 🔻 https://lnkd.in/e9G-PJ9q #SDG16Plus #SDG13 #OurResilientFuture #ClimateAction #JusticeForAll
