  • Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that occurs at certain times of the year, most commonly during the fall and winter months, when daylight hours are shorter. It is thought to be related to changes in light exposure, which can affect the body's biological clock, leading to disruptions in mood, sleep, and hormone regulation. Symptoms of SAD can include experiences of Depressive mood: Persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or low energy. Loss of interest: Reduced interest in activities once enjoyed. Sleep disturbances: Oversleeping or difficulty waking up. Changes in appetite: Increased craving for carbohydrates or weight gain. Difficulty concentrating: Trouble with focus or memory. Social withdrawal: A tendency to isolate oneself from others. Causes: Reduced sunlight: Shorter daylight hours can affect the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that regulates mood. Vitamin D deficiency: Reduced sun exposure may lead to low levels of vitamin D, which plays a role in mood regulation. Circadian rhythm disruption: Lack of sunlight can disrupt the body's internal clock, affecting sleep and mood. Steps to overcome SAD : Light therapy: Exposure to a special light box that mimics natural sunlight, typically for 20-30 minutes a day, can help regulate mood. Psychotherapy: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is commonly used to help individuals manage SAD. Lifestyle changes: Increased physical activity, a healthy diet, and stress management techniques can be beneficial. If you think you may have SAD, it’s important to seek professional advice for proper diagnosis and treatment. • Checking in on loved one can go a long way that includes those who come across as the ones who have it all together. Six ways to be more supportive towards a loved one. 1. Listen more with the aim of understanding not responding. 2. Respect other peoples difference in beliefs and opinions 3. Be truly present. 4. Let people know they matter / are important. 5. Be thoughtful & considerate of others feelings & how what you say could impact them. 6. Acknowledge people around you. Simple acknowledgements can strength relationship connections. #postiverelationships #relationships #connections #lovedones #support #supportingeachother #checkins #communication #talkinghelps

  • Friday Facts Sxicide is often very missunderstood, here are some myth busters. (Myth) People that die by suicide are selfish and didn't care to think of their loved ones. (Fact) Often misunderstood - it’s not an easy decision nor do they want to die, they just feel isolated and wish to end their suffering and feel this is their only option left. Imagine how hard it must be to feel this unheard with no way out. #mentalhealth #suicidemyths #questions #awareness #isolation #fear #challenges #prevention #education #stigma #taboos #punjabimentalhealth

  • As the holiday season approaches and the party atmosphere takes over, it's important to remember that not everyone wishes to drink alcohol, and it's not necessary to have a good time. We have observed many gatherings where alcohol is the central theme of enjoyment, often making non-drinkers feel unwelcome or undervalued compared to those who choose to drink. Choosing to drink or abstain is a personal decision, and we encourage you to respect others' choices without urging them to consume alcohol. Keep in mind—alcohol is not the only way to have a good time. A good time is great company with incredble people. #festiveseason #nomorealcohol #alcohol # peerpressure #addicition #supportivefriends #party

  • National Grief Awareness Week is a heartfelt and significant week about the experience of grief, offering support to those in mourning, and enhancing comprehension of the grieving journey. This annual event is dedicated to creating a supportive environment where individuals can freely share their encounters with grief and loss. It advocates for empathy, kindness, and assistance for those grieving, highlighting that grief is a universal and often difficult aspect of being human. National Grief Awareness Week underscores the importance of openly and compassionately acknowledging and addressing grief. It serves as a reminder that grief is a natural response to loss, deserving of understanding and support. This observance offers a chance for people and communities to unite, exchange their stories, and learn how to support each other during tough times. How to support an experience of loss; Encourage individuals to share their experiences with grief, either through written narratives, art, or verbal discussions. This sharing can help others feel less alone in their grief journey. Attend Grief Support Events: Look for local or online grief support events, workshops, and seminars. These can provide valuable information and a supportive community for those in need. Offer a Listening Ear: Sometimes, the most significant support you can provide is to listen without judgment.
