Support, Education, and Empowerment for Women Affected by Breast or Ovarian Cancer. Talk to Someone Who Understands.

About us

SHARE is a national nonprofit that supports, educates, and empowers women affected by breast or ovarian cancer, with a special focus on medically underserved communities. SHARE meets women wherever they are with the insight of others who have been there too, creating a nationwide community where no one feels alone. Established over 40 years ago by a group of breast cancer patients and their surgeon, SHARE now offers distinct programs for women with ovarian cancer and metastatic breast cancer, and it touches lives 160,000 times each year. SHARE’s free services have been developed with insights from patients and survivors to support women of all ages, cultures, and ethnicities to make informed decisions about their care. All services are provided in both English and Spanish, and they include support groups, expert-led educational programs, national helplines, community outreach, online communities, corporate wellness programs, advocacy opportunities, caregiver support, and survivor-patient navigation.

Updates

  • Today is #GivingTuesday, and we’re giving thanks for all we’ve been able to achieve together this year as members of our SHARE community. Over 6,500 people will have called our Helpline to learn about their diagnoses and find a warm shoulder to lean on from someone who has been there in English, Spanish, and Chinese! Our online educational webinars provided information from some of the world’s leading medical experts to over 350,000 patients and their caregivers, and over 35,000 women in the New York area got potentially lifesaving on-the-ground education from our community-based Ambassadors. SHARE’s Support Groups provide profoundly meaningful experiences. Support Group members share laughter, tears, and information as they navigate their lives in treatment and post-treatment together. In 2024, SHARE held over 60 Support Group sessions each month. Laura joined a SHARE Support Group to connect with like-minded women who were also living with MBC. She brings the experience to life by explaining: “We question treatments, we don’t just do what our doctors say. We seek other opinions. We compare side effects. SHARE has helped give me hope that I can have a quality of life going forward. I’m not a ‘woe is me’ kind of person. I don’t go there or think about it. I live every day to the fullest.” Donate Now: https://lnkd.in/e7d_YTNw Thank you so much for your generous support, and for being a part of the SHARE community.

  • At SHARE, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to make a profound difference in women’s lives, every day! We received this lovely letter from a metastatic breast cancer patient with an elderly mother and an autistic son, whose weight was dwindling because she had to choose between feeding her family or herself with the added costs of her treatments. SHARE’s Patient Navigation team jumped in and helped her find nutritional support, a walker, educational information about her treatments, and a friendly team to lean on. Her son helped her prepare this note to SHARE: "At the time I was referred to SHARE Cancer Support, I was told: 'They speak Spanish, they will provide support to the women who are going through the difficult process of this disease.' I was really reluctant to call and talk about my diagnosis and situation in general. But I was surprised when I made the first call. From that very moment, I felt so welcomed. I was surrounded by women who have listened to me, supported me in every way, but above all they have filled me with hope knowing that I am not alone in this process. I want to take this opportunity to tell you that I am thoroughly grateful for your commitment, for the support and the love you have given me. God bless you for the beautiful work that you do!" Help SHARE continue to make a difference. Donate today: https://lnkd.in/e7d_YTNw

  • We’ve all been at that point where the cost of treatment and care become overwhelming and difficult to manage. Bobbie Menneg was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in 2013 and recognized the financial support many patients needed—beyond even medical expenses. She founded BEYOND THE RIBBON INC, helping to ease the burden by covering everyday bills, providing medical equipment, and offering gift cards for groceries or gas. The stress she sees visibly lift from patients’ shoulders is what keeps her going. Our BC Life host, 🎙️Megan-Claire Chase, talks with Bobbie about her cancer journey and how she started Beyond the Ribbon. You don't want to miss this inspiring story as she learns how to tackle financial toxicity by lending a hand to those in need. 🎧Tune in to our latest episode wherever you get your podcasts. #SHARECancerSupport #OurBCLife #BreastCancerPodcast #SHARECancerPodcast #BreastCancerSurvivor #CancerSurvivorshipStage #CancerSupport #AfterBreastCancer #LifeAfterBreastCancer #FinanicalToxicity

  • SHARE is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with the American Indian Cancer Foundation CEO Melissa Buffalo: "In November, we honor the past, present, and future of Native communities by focusing on what matters most—our health and well-being. By encouraging regular screenings, we take action to prevent cancer and stay strong for our families and communities.   I want to encourage our non-Native partners to view their work as part of a larger movement to achieve health equity for all, especially during Native American Heritage Month when awareness and cultural respect are highlighted.   Together, we can strengthen our health and honor our ancestors by taking proactive steps for a healthier tomorrow." #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #CancerAwareness #IndigenousHealth
