Updates

  • As the year draws to a close, we are very happy to announce that we will be extending our Board with two non-Executive Directors, to support Shift in the next steps of building our organisation and scaling our impact: welcome Rachel Fenton PhD and Mike Bascombe! Apart from being an expert in tackling regulatory and accounting challenges Rachel Fenton PhD, currently Director at Alvarez & Marsal, brings a deep understanding of the unique demands and governance of growing organisations, which has already proven extremely valuable. It goes without saying she is also a passionate cyclist: "As a longtime keen cyclist and outdoor enthusiast living in Switzerland I see the impacts of man-made climate change every day. Local rides take in glaciers that are disappearing and longer summers highlight a temperature rise double that of the global average. For me therefore, joining the board of Shift Cycling Culture is an opportunity to make real, visible impact in my own backyard and to join a team of passionate individuals doing a lot with not much. I am excited to see Shift as an organisation and the cycling industry as a whole mature and face the global climate challenges head on." With his extensive sustainability experience, currently leading the ESG and Sustainability practices at VantagePoint Consulting, Mike Bascombe offers invaluable insights in the confluence of sustainability, technology and finance to create long term value: "I am honoured to join the Board of Shift Cycling Culture, a global movement at the forefront of driving climate action in the cycling world. Together, we aim to inspire change, foster collaboration, and champion sustainability across this industry we all love. It’s a privilege to contribute to shaping a future where cycling not only connects people with their passion but also supports a healthier planet." This Board extension is another important step forward in our 5-year existence, and we’re excited to see the ripple effects of their contributions in the months and years to come. Please join us in giving Rachel and Mike a warm welcome to the Shift community! [Please note that the Shift Team will take a break from 21 Dec - 6 Jan 2025. We look forward to seeing you in the new year, and wish you a wonderful festive season both on and off the bike 🌲 🚵♀️ ] #ScalingImpact #BoardOfDirectors #ClimateAction

  • We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new open source CLIMATE ACTION TRAINING COURSE for the Cycling Industry.   The majority of a cycling company’s environmental footprint typically stems from its supply chain - up to 95% of carbon emissions occur during the extraction, sourcing, and production of bicycle materials and components.   This free course is designed to raise awareness about the crucial role manufacturers play in reducing emissions and to equip them with helpful resources.   The course is open to the entire cycling industry. It is available in English, Mandarin and Vietnamese. By the end of this course, you will be able to: 📝 Measure and report on your company's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 📉 Set GHG emissions reduction targets and monitor progress 🌱 Identify low-carbon solutions for energy efficiency and renewable energy This training is the result of a unique collaboration between eight cycling brands - Accell Group, Canyon Bicycles GmbH, Quality Bicycle Products, ROSE Bikes, Schindelhauer Bikes, Schwalbe - Ralf Bohle GmbH, Scott Sports SA, and Trek Bicycle.   This initiative is co-facilitated by Shift Cycling Culture and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH and hopes to enable more collective action across the industry.   Go to 👉 https://lnkd.in/grxCsekK to watch the full video, learn more about the course and how to enrol. #netzero #climateaction #climatechange #cycling #cyclist

  • Last week we released the first ever Climate Action Pulse Check for the Cycling Industry. Diving deep into the results with our team was both inspiring and uplifting, but also an honest check on reality. Just like the industry representatives that have taken the survey, we feel optimistic about the progress that has been made. And just like the cyclists, we feel that so much more still needs to be done. We need more brands and their suppliers to step up, start measuring their impact and become transparent about their efforts. We want to support more companies to rethink how their products are designed, and how their businesses are run. And we hope to see more cyclists leveraging their power as consumers, pushing the industry forward. We are here to help: our Industry Meetups and tools like our Climate Action Roadmap, Climate Action Training (to be launched soon) and Circular Design Courses are open for everyone to use.
