I am a bit late in sharing, but in November I had the chance to participate in the SIHI Sweden Conference 2024 in Uppsala (Sweden), exploring the entrepreneurial side of social innovation in health, by listening to some inspiring speakers, such as Mats Målqvist , Dr. Samer Yammine , Tori Ford and many others. Fast forward to today, I’m happy to share a short article about the experience! 🚀 Special thanks goes to the Irish Global Health Network for enabling me to go. 💚

💡 Are you a PhD student and curious to learn more about social innovation? 💡 Welcome to apply for the PhD course "Social innovation in theory and practice” hosted by SIHI Sweden at Uppsala universitet and Forum for Social Innovation Sweden (Mötesplats Social Innovation) at Malmö universitet. 💡 The purpose of the course is to provide PhD students with a theoretical basis of social innovation and to provide insights into conceptual and empirical research. Thematically, social innovation is highlighted in relation to inclusion and sustainability in organizations and society. 💡 This is a hybrid course (attendance on-site is required) and open to everyone who is admitted to a doctoral program at a Swedish or international university. Grateful to my brilliant and thoughtful academic supervisor Dr. Shepherd Urenje for not only advising and mentoring me during my graduate studies at the Centre for Health and Sustainability at Uppsala University, but also for presenting my thesis research on the co-creation of social innovations and social enterprises with Mexican human trafficking survivors at the annual Social Innovation in Health Initiative conference - thank you! I hope to attend next year and reconnect with Dr. Urenje, meet with centre director Mats Målqvist and speaker Joseph Tucker, and exchange ideas with the incredible panelists and attendees. #cocreation #socialinnovation #socialinnovationinhealth #socialentrepreneurship #SIHI #SIHISweden

Senior Project Manager: Health Financing at Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Last week, I presented our Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Healthy Futures SA work on building capacity among youth social innovators in health at the SIHI Sweden conference. It was fascinating to learn from colleagues and researchers working on social innovation across the globe. The cherry on top was seeing the Northern Lights from the Uppsala Castle on the final night of the conference 💫

A big thank you to all of you who took part in our designathon for youth mental health yesterday. A special thank you to all the youth who came and contributed with your very valuable thoughts and perspectives on how it is to be young today and what ideas actually works. We are so impressed with all the ideas that came up in this two-hour workshop! 🎉 👏 We are very excited to share with you the finalist team - The buddy bus! The buddy bus hosts a ‘trained listener’ and fika - it’s a place for young people in Uppsala to vent about anything! The judges found this idea to be feasible, versatile, and potentially interesting to local stakeholders. 💡 Interested in developing this idea further? We are hosting a second workshop to build on to this idea. Reach out if you would like to innovate further with us! We will shortly post all ideas from the designathon on our webpage, and other insights from the SIHI Sweden conference that the designathon was part of - so stay tuned. 🤝 Thank you Joseph Tucker, Eneyi Kpokiri (PhD) and Dr Ruby Wang for making this possible – social innovation happens through collaborations!
