Integrated Technological and Information Platform for Wildfire Management (Horizon 2020 Project)
About us
In the climate crisis era, where forest fires are becoming more dangerous and more frequent, SILVANUS aims to offer a new technological solution to improve the preparedness and prevention of wildfire ignition. The key output of the project is the release of a climate resilient forest management platform to prevent and suppress forest fire. SILVANUS relies on environmental, technical and social sciences experts to support regional and national authorities responsible for wildfire management in their respective countries. Along with the development of intelligent fire ignition models using climate and weather data, SILVANUS will develop a stakeholder engagement programme in forest regions to assess fire risk indicators, to develop training methodology for firefighters, to use for VR and AR training toolkits, and to simulate real-world environments and life-saving scenarios.

As a part of a recap of the successful pilots that took place in September and October 2024, let us go back to the first one of the successful autumn season! 🛬 🍂 The #SILVANUSProject platform 👨💻 was tested at the Rodna Mountains in the Carpathians in northern Romania in September, as the first one in a series of pilots in the fall of 2024. 👏🏻 Organised by the Consortium member ASFOR Romania (Romanian Forestry Association), the #platform testing featured components such as the AR/VR training for firefighters 🥽 👩🚒, developed by SIMAVI Software Imagination & Vision, and fire detection at the edge using drones by Atos. These components were tested during an exercise demonstration that included firefighters from Bistrița county, rangers, police department, Consortium partner SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Reanimation and Extrication), Salvamont (National Association of Mountain Rescuers from Romania) and enjoyed the support of the Sub-Prefect of Bistrita-Năsăud county Mr. Atilla-Lehel Décsei. News footage from the pilot site (in Romanian) is available at this link: https://lnkd.in/d-M4EWEs The AR/VR video: https://lnkd.in/dSgBTMxX Thank you to the #SILVANUSProject team and the stakeholders for facilitating another successful pilot! #wildfiremanagement #climatechange

The Croatian pilot has successfully made the landing! 🛩️ In the karst landscape of the beguiling Croatian region of Dalmatia ⛰️ 🌊, in the vicinity of the Firefighting center for education and technological development Split - VACETRAS 👩🏻🚒, #SILVANUSProject wildfire management #platform was tested to its full potential. 👨🏻💻🦾 The pilot fire #simulation exercise began with citizens reporting a fire incident through the SILVANUS citizen engagement app 📱 (available for download at Google Play https://lnkd.in/dKCQX6Fs and App Store https://lnkd.in/dfD4ES3K), followed by a fire #detection through the IoT camera devices [◉°], the deployment of a #drone for fire inspection 🛰, the assessment of #health impact assessment by the air quality sensor to ensure a safe passage for firefighters or citizens 🩺, and finally a ground #robot to extinguish the fire. 🤖 Forward command centres were established at the site 🖥️ 🕹️ in one of the fire engine vehicles, where the SILVANUS platform #dashboard was set up to make swift decisions on the field for an efficient and timely deployment of manpower and technology. The #platform could then determine and plan the #evacuation routes for citizens and firefighters, model future fire #spread, adjust the drone inspection flight plan, and much more. Multiple forward command centres can also communicate with each other on the field. Thank you to SILVANUS partner Hrvatska vatrogasna zajednica - Croatian Firefighting Association, and the Fire Brigades of Split-Dalmatia County for organising a successful implementation and testing of the fully integrated SILVANUS wildfire management platform, on #SustainabilityDay and on the eve of #InternationalDayforClimateAction! The platform is now in its full swing, and will hopefully contribute significantly to more efficient wildfire management in EU countries and beyond.
