Throwback to the magical morning for our Kindergarten 1 and 2 students from our preschool last week! ✨ As they stepped into 'big school', St. Joseph’s Institution International for the first time, their bright personalities and virtues truly shone. From finding peace in the chapel, joy in the library, and wonder in the sensory garden, to making new friends with the Prep 1 class on the playground – it was a day filled with fun and laughter! 🌟 A special moment came when Mrs. Kendon spoke about nurturing the Virtues within us all. The children even planted their own Virtue Pot Plants as a beautiful reminder to grow kindness, courage, and love every day. 🌱❤️ #SJIInternational #SJIIPreschool #GrowingVirtues #BigSchoolJourney #KindnessCourageLove

Our very first group of Kindergarten 2 children to complete our programme at the Preschool have truly amazed us at our year-end exhibition with their boundless creativity and infectious enthusiasm! 🎨✨ Families explored a vibrant collection of booths filled with the children’s masterpieces and unique creations – each co-constructed with the children to highlight their learning journey throughout the year. As these young learners prepare for the next chapter in 'big' school, we celebrate their remarkable achievements and the strong community we've built together. What an unforgettable year it’s been! #SJIIPreschool #earlychildhoodeducation

🌟 What an amazing morning! Last Wednesday, our Kindergarten 1 and 2 students from our #Preschool based on Holland Road visited our St. Joseph’s Institution International joseph's institution international campus on Thomson Road to experience 'big school' for the first time! 🌈 Their virtues truly shone: they greeted Dr. Johnston, Ms. Nicol, and Mrs. Hazlewood with courage and enthusiasm, found peace in the chapel, joy in the library, and embraced wonder in the Sensory Garden. They made new friends at the Ship Playground, joining Mrs. Agar's Prep 1 class in fun and laughter! 🌿✨ Mrs. Kendon shared insights about the gifts of Virtues we all carry and how they grow through our experiences. To top it off, the children planted their own Virtue Pot Plants as a reminder to nurture the gifts from God within us all. 🌱❤️ #SJIInternational #SJIInternationalPreschool #GrowingVirtues #BigSchoolAdventure

In Kindergarten 2, the children have been exploring technology, problem-solving, and inventions over the last three weeks, focusing on how everyday tools can improve their lives. 🛠️🔍✨ In Week 1, they discussed “What is technology?” and how it helps us, identifying devices like phones and TVs. They tackled the problem of the 'sandy' classroom carpet by researching vacuum cleaners, designing blueprints, and testing a real vacuum. In Week 2, after a visit to the Singapore Science Centre, they learned about electricity and built simple circuits using batteries and wires. Their predictions proved successful when their bulbs lit up! By Week 3, they explored cleaning gadgets like brooms and mops, using natural materials from the school garden to create their own. The children worked together to problem-solve and compare the effectiveness of their handmade tools. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey into natural marvels and inventions that shape their world. 🌍🔧 #SJIIPreschool #STEMLearning #Kindergarten

Happy Children's Day! 🎉 Yesterday, we celebrated Children's Day at our Preschool with a heartwarming event that brought together parents and children, honouring the virtues of friendliness and unity that we share as a community. The morning was filled with joy as families designed tote bags, embracing creativity and collaboration. Afterwards, families and children prepared their own snacks, sharing food preferences and exploring healthy choices. The morning wrapped up with a lovely picnic, where families relaxed on their mats, exchanged words of affirmation that were written, and created special memories. It was a beautiful day celebrating our children, filled with creativity, bonding, and a wonderful sense of community spirit! ☀️ #SJIIPreschool #ChildrensDay

Our Early Years 2 children have also been diving into the fascinating world of Natural and Man-Made Marvels! Over the last three weeks, they’ve been busy exploring the concepts of size, shapes, and constructions. 🏠🔺🟦 In Week 1, discussions around houses revealed their extensive mathematical vocabulary as they described various sizes and used blocks and cushions to build homes for different-sized inhabitants. Their creativity was sparked by the story of The Gruffalo, inspiring them to construct houses designed for safety and camouflage, just like the animals in the book. Week 2 saw the children exploring 2D shapes in greater depth. They identified shapes in their environment and used them to create representational art, turning hexagons into suns and triangles into rooftops. This exploration laid a foundation for more complex constructions to come! In Week 3, the children took their shape play further by incorporating numeracy concepts. They explored symmetry, combined shapes to form larger ones, and even started identifying and creating their own patterns. Their understanding of shapes and patterns is growing beautifully, and we’re excited to see where this leads next. This week, the children will continue their exploration of shape, symmetry, and construction. We can’t wait to see what they’ll discover 🔍 #SJIIPreschool #CreativePlay #BuildingAndLearning

Our little ones in Early Years 1 have been exploring the fascinating world of Natural and Man-Made Marvels! Over the past three weeks, they’ve been learning through sensory play, construction, and cause-and-effect activities. 🛠️🌍 In Week 1, they experimented with building structures from cups and magnetic tiles, discovering how to balance and stabilize their creations. They also made “Artificial Snow” with shaving cream and cornflour and whipped up their own version of “Turkish Delight”! Week 2 brought more hands-on fun as the children continued exploring cause-and-effect relationships, constructing robots and learning about different adhesives. They also compared real and artificial apples, experimenting with oxidation while preparing a delicious apple crumble. In Week 3, our young scientists extracted natural dyes from blue pea flowers and pandan leaves. They got creative with "Chalk Paint" and enjoyed water play with their milky blue creations! This week, the children will continue to explore basic cause-and-effect relationships and use their senses to observe the process of change. Stay tuned for more learning highlights! #SJIIPreschool #SensoryLearning #CreativePlay

As the Kindergarten 2 children delved deeper into their inquiry, 'Our Amazing World,' they interviewed different school team members. The children collaborated to formulate questions based on their learning so far. The children’s questions included: 🤔 Who is responsible? 🌎 Why should we take care of the planet? ⚡ How do you save electricity? ♻️ Do you recycle? 🌱 Do you use reusable bags? The children used these interviews to gather more information and understand the perspectives and sustainability practices of others. Before the interviews, the class also conducted a session on mock interviews to help the children practice their interviewing techniques and feel more confident about asking questions. 🎤 Through this experience, the children learned that listening and speaking skills are important for conducting successful interviews. Data from these interviews were then reviewed as they continued to learn and explore. 📚 #SJIIPreschool #Learning #Preschool #Education #OurAmazingWorld

A few weeks ago, the Kindergarten 1 children watched a documentary titled 'Our Living World,' which explores the resourcefulness and interconnectedness of life on our planet. 🌎 It highlights how fragile Earth’s ecosystems are, the impact of the climate crisis, and the importance of conservation. The documentary led to a class discussion on how different ecosystems are connected to each other and the impact of human activities on them. Next, the children drew and wrote about their findings based on the video. As an extension on conservation, the children worked in groups to carry out an experiment on the effects of water pollution. They predicted, observed, and documented their findings. The children will continue their inquiry by exploring other effects of pollution and finding ways to save the Earth. 🌱 #SJIIPreschool #earlychildhood #learning
