SOS changes young lives, building character and leadership in youth through mentoring outdoors
About us
No matter what social, societal, or economic barriers exist—SOS Outreach believes every child deserves the opportunity to thrive. It starts with skiing or snowboarding, because it’s on the mountain that kids unearth the courage to step outside of their comfort zones, develop new strengths within themselves and cultivate lifelong skills. Since 1993, we’ve been using mentorship and a proven, multi-year curriculum, to empower kids and teenagers to discover their true potential. Mission SOS Outreach changes young lives, builds character and develops leadership in youth who face risks through mentoring outdoors. Core Values SOS Outreach has six core values: courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom, compassion and humility. These values are central to our programs and operation.

SOS Outreach alumni Fernanda Landeros and Aaron Chaussignand teamed up with Nordica and Christy Sports to create a limited-edition ski, the Nordica SOS Outreach Enforcer 94, blending top-tier design with a mission to empower youth. This project allowed five SOS Outreach alumni to gain hands-on experience in ski production, from crafting a custom top sheet to developing a marketing strategy. Only 70 pairs of this unique ski were produced, and a portion of every sale supports SOS Outreach’s mentorship programs, which help over 3,000 youth annually build confidence and life skills through outdoor experiences. As Fernanda, a first-generation Latina skier, shared: “These skis are making a significant impact on the lives of kids like me, the first in their families to hit the slopes.” https://lnkd.in/g7s2SZEA

It's easy to always be looking ahead - the next season of programs, fundraising cycle, etc. But just as important is spending time to reflect. Thanks to the support of our community - donors, volunteers, brand, and grant partners - we were able to accomplish a lot, leaving an outsized positive impact on young people across our communities. Our programs are better when we work together and we couldn't accomplish all that we do without you.

Our Board Chair, Tod Francis is embarking on a massive cycling endeavor next week all with the goal to raise money for SOS programs. Learn more and make a contribution here: https://lnkd.in/gx9bmuUN
Please support me as I ride to raise funds for SOS Outreach, an organization that provides mentoring, curriculum and career opportunities to over 3,000 youth who come from challenging situations. I'll be riding 72 miles on Thanksgiving that starts with the longest continual road climb, a 10K ft vertical climb over 36 miles from sea level to the top of the Haleakala volcano. I am deeply involved with SOS and strongly believe this group is making a big impact on youth we touch. A donor match the first $25K raised, so your donations will be doubled. Please support me and SOS so we can help more youth.

We’re excited to announce our second annual partnership with SOS Outreach and the launch of a special edition of Nordica Enforcer 94 skis! This unique project brings together 50 limited-edition pairs of skis, with 65% of profits going directly to help underrepresented youth discover the outdoors. Thank you to The Park Record Newspaper and Jonathan Herrera for capturing the excitement around the launch including commentary from our five incredible young people, including SOS Outreach alumni, who designed these all-mountain skis. They’re built for power, precision, and are available in a variety of lengths to suit all skill levels. A favorite among trail skiers, these skis offer exceptional versatility, delivering a smooth and stable ride on any terrain. They feature a fresh construction with a wood core and elastomer, a versatile waist width, and outstanding edge hold. The design is stunning, too: deep blue mountains with snowy white peaks and a pink sunset reflection, capturing the spirit of adventure. Last night I had the chance to join one of our mentor program meet and greets. This is the first time that mentors and their groups are connecting for the year to meet each other, set goals for the season, and agree as a full community on their norms. One area that I have often taken for granted in our programs and that was on full display last night is the power of trust. We have thousands of parents and caregivers and teachers and counselors who trust their kids with us, our programs, and our curriculum. It's something that I saw earned as kids were dropped off and their parents had such strong connections with our program leads and the mentors. Trust is not easily given and takes doing the right things consistently. I'm humbled to walk with a team doing that across our communities. SOS Outreach is back on snow for the season! We kicked off our first mountain day of the year at Loveland Ski Area over the weekend with a Denver Mentor Training. Incredible part of this day is that three of the mentors are graduates of our programs who are coming full circle to support the next generation of participants as mentors, and each of them completed our career program. Never underestimate what a community of dedicated individuals can make happen. Brendan Heinkel Tarah Waters (She / Her) Matt Kelly Alison Canavan, MPA Andrew Ching John Sellers Loryn Roberson

There’s magic in belonging. When we feel seen, heard, and valued, we unlock our true potential - not just as individuals, but as a community. Avery shares how her SOS #community helped her overcome the challenge of trying new things and provided her with a meaningful way to connect with others. Spread the love, build community. For our friends in Park City, all donations through #LivePCGivePC will be doubled thanks to Beano Solomon. Now’s your chance to make a difference in a young person’s life, just like Avery.
