Congratulations to the project team!

As part of this high tech client’s 17-building, 70-acre East Campus expansion in Redmond, #Washington, we designed permanent installations for four buildings. A light-filled atrium is placed at the heart of the building, providing the perfect space to interpret the history of #computing. On one floor we took inspiration from the first physical #computer, the Jacquard loom and created an array of panels that mimic the punch cards of the loom. On another we reference the punched cards used with early #digital computers. As part of this high #tech client’s 17-building, 70-acre East Campus expansion in Redmond, #Washington, we designed permanent installations for four buildings enhancing the everyday workplace experience. In one building, the bright central atriums celebrate the history of computing through a series of dimensional wall installations. On the top floor, a shimmering installation made up of faceted blocks represents the #pixels of today’s digital screens. Hundreds of angled faces are covered with a dynamic dichroic surface, bouncing light as you move along the wall, bringing the static wall to life. The dimensional #installations all extend down the adjacent corridors as custom printed #wallpaper #graphics mirroring each pattern as a glossy print on a matte background. For the love of cycling. When tasked with elevating what is usually a drab, dull garage for riders to park their bikes, we created vibrant wall graphics that celebrate the dynamic motion of #cycling. The bright atmosphere now encourages this high tech client’s employees (and the surrounding community) to bike-on all year round. Introducing #TheEight, a new building at the intersection of NE 8th and 108th in #Bellevue, WA. We designed the chic signage system responding to the impeccable architectural and interior finishes of the communal spaces. The polished interior and exterior sign family appears throughout the ground and amenity floors. The layered forms bring The Eight’s 2D brand to life. Across two food halls on this high tech campus, we designed a sign system to reflect the culinary variety on offer while also providing visual cohesion. To create the underlying consistency a single typeface is used throughout, but with a wide range of weights and styles. No stone was left unturned in the design process, down to the unique attachments that our team chose to complement each sign. Woo! Our exhibition “Give Me a Sign” at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum has won a prestigious SEGD Global Design Award. The exhibition celebrated the “Symbol Sourcebook” by Henry Dreyfuss. This iconic catalogue of universally recognized symbols also describes some of the first efforts to create a shared visual language that anyone around the world can understand. To reference the gridded interiors of the book and to protect the historic Carnegie Mansion in which the museum is housed, we designed freestanding, modular structures to hold all of the content. Hurray! Our exhibition design, “Give Me a Sign: The Language of Symbols,” at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum has won a 365: AIGA Year in Design award! Jurors assessed 506 entries from more than 26 countries, including the United States, Canada, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan, Germany, Greece, Netherlands, Mexico, Colombia, Georgia, Kenya, Japan, United Kingdom, and more. In this veritable Design Olympics, we were thrilled to contribute one of the 54 winning entries — selected to represent excellence in design.
