We are always so thankful to be a part of projects that impact our Indianapolis community. Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church recently hosted an Open House to share their new Parish Hall. Located on a landlocked, urban site, St. John's asked StudioAXIS to design this addition to serve as a gathering place for the growing parish. This new addition was designed to complement the aesthetic of the Gothic Revival church, using similar brick and limestone details. The masonry aesthetic provides a timeless feel that blends the three buildings into one. Yet, in contrast to the existing structures, the new parish hall’s west facade incorporates a large amount of transparency. The openness of the west facade provides an inviting atmosphere both on the interior of the space, as well as on the exterior for the many pedestrians who pass by the site. The large glass openings are accented with pointed-arch frames that draw the gaze upwards towards the new roof terrace and the sky above. While this addition provides a larger gathering space for this Parish, there are other features that will better serve the community. On-site parking and the addition of an elevator tower now makes all four levels of the existing rectory handicap accessible. The rooftop terrace gives a new perspective of the city’s downtown and surrounding sites. We're so fortunate to work with amazing clients on rewarding projects. As we approach these last few months of 2024, we're reflecting on some of our biggest moments. ✨This summer, AIA Indiana named its 2024 Indiana Design Award Winners, and we were ecstatic to have earned the Honor Award for Adaptive Reuse of the Michigan Farm Bureau project in Lansing, Michigan. This project transformed a traditional office space into a vibrant, modern workspace to promote collaboration and connectedness. A standout feature of this space is a three-story “hole” that connects all three levels, creating a more integrated workspace. Energy-efficient systems, sustainable materials, and a mix of workspaces from focus areas to social hubs ensure the office meets the needs of a dynamic workforce while promoting wellness and productivity. We couldn’t be more excited about the final result, which not only revitalized the workspace but redefined this office for the Michigan Farm Bureau workforce. The City of Westfield and the Westfield Fire Department have unveiled StudioAXIS renderings for Station 84, set to be located at 191st Street and Chad Hittle Drive. This new station will enhance the community's fire and medical services, with construction starting soon and an anticipated opening in October 2025. The two-story, 20,000-square-foot building will feature three apparatus bays, living and sleeping quarters, and a public museum. It will house up to 12 fire department personnel for 24/7 response, equipped with a ladder truck and an engine. Station 84 will significantly benefit the US-31 corridor, Grand Park area, and Chatham Hills, reducing response times by over two minutes in an area where every second counts. We are excited to see the progress on this innovative project in Bloomington, IN! The Forge, a 22,000-square-foot, three-story tech center, is coming to life next to The Dimension Mill. Construction is in full swing, and the first tenants could move in by late this year.
