California stands up and stands together to protect every child's right to an education. In the wake of threats to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond convened state-elected leaders, educators, and partners for a press conference today at CDE Headquarters to call on President-elect Donald Trump and the United States Congress to reaffirm their commitment to preserving public education. The proposed elimination of the ED would eliminate vital programs that support low-income students, students with special needs, and all children and families across our nation. Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab, Sacramento City Unified School District Trustee Chinua Rhodes, California Federation of Teachers President Jeff Freitas, and Californians Together Deputy Director Xilonin Cruz-Gonzalez joined Thurmond in voicing the importance of public education for our families and communities. California is committed to ensuring that our students– and all students across this country – have what they need to be safe and successful at school. Watch the recap: https://lnkd.in/g3FvD_E5
