Humans are a part of nature — so restoring our forests is about more than just planting trees. Rebuilding an ecosystem sustainably means addressing the needs of the human communities that coexist with the forest — such as shelter, food, and safety. In the Philippines, Terraformation is embarking on an ambitious new restoration project in partnership with CCCO2, a Philippine reforestation and conservation company founded in 2018. As the biodiverse forest is restored to this former colonial cattle ranch, agroforestry will enable the local Indigenous communities to grow native crops like cocoa, hemp, and millet. A few facts about this project: • 1,000 hectares, with 12,000 hectare expansion potential • 508,000 tonnes of CO2 sequestered over 40 years • Environmental co-benefits include improved water quality, reduced risk of wildfires, and enhanced erosion and flood control • Agroforestry areas will integrate crops of cocoa, hemp, and adlai (millet)  • Equal employment opportunities, including for women in leadership positions   We're excited to begin the restoration of this beautiful mountain region. To learn more about this project and how you can purchase the carbon credits it will generate, start here: https://refore.st/4cTZpJD #carboncredits #carbonoffsets #carbon #carbonmarket #vcm #philippines #forestcarbon

Many #COP29 attendees were visiting Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 for the first time, but for Terraformation's Head of Business Development, Zara Huseynova, the conference in Baku marked a return to her home country and the city where she started her first business at age 18. Her story and perspective inspire us — and we bet they'll inspire you, too. 💚

Serial Entrepreneur, BD at @Terraformation Forbes under30

Coming back to Baku for COP29 was truly special. Meeting so many familiar and dear people—was priceless. Many of you still know me as an entrepreneur and someone working with women and may not know why I was at COP29. Since I’m not very active on social media and don’t plan to be anytime soon, I thought I’d take a moment to summarize my journey and the shift I made to climate change work. Here’s an excerpt from my talk at COP29 to update you on where I am now professionally: “I’m Zara Huseynova, originally from Azerbaijan. I started my first business right here in Baku at 18 years old with just $200. I bootstrapped it, scaled it, and eventually went on to build seven more successful businesses in retail and education. One of the most important and dear to my heart was WoWoman, a social enterprise that trained over 10,000 women in skills ranging from programming to entrepreneurship, from soft skills to digital literacy. The goal was to equip women with the tools for financial independence, empowering them to have a voice and a choice in who they want to be and what they want to do. After years of operation, Facebook recognized us as one of the top 100 communities in the world, and Forbes included me in their ‘30 Under 30’ list as a social entrepreneur in Europe. Then COVID hit, and I also became a mom for the first time. Having that space to reflect, I realized it was time to direct my energy, resources, and time to The Mother—the one who feeds and nurtures us all: Mother Earth. That’s how I began my journey into reforestation and climate change, which has been my focus for the past four years.” I’m now working with Terraformation, a native forest restoration project developer. It’s a U.S.-based startup founded by Yishan Wong, the former CEO of Reddit, with projects in 15 countries. Our mission is to restore the planet’s forests to capture carbon, revitalize nature, and build thriving communities. I joined the company when it had fewer than 10 people, and now we’re a team of around 100. Drawing on my entrepreneurial and business development skills, I’ve worn many hats in the company, often being called a ‘Swiss knife’ person. Currently, I’m focused on building Strategic Partnerships. While it’s challenging at times to carry the weight of the problem we’re trying to solve, I remain hopeful. I believe there’s no other option but to push forward to protect this beautiful planet for future generations. What’s most present for me now is the question of how we can inspire more people to act and make decisions from a heart-centered place, not just from their heads. I believe this shift could help resolve much of the friction we face. What do you think?

We are deeply honored to receive the IFF Global Green Finance Award Innovation Award from the International Finance Forum (IFF) in recognition of Terraformation's Seed to Carbon Forest Accelerator. This award is designed to foster green finance and growth, as well as green investment through global partnerships. These investments are urgently needed as global stakeholders work together to meet critical climate goals and achieve the vision of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At Terraformation, our mission is driven by a powerful conviction: that nature is our greatest ally in the fight against climate change. By providing the tools and infrastructure needed for biodiverse and resilient forest restoration projects, foresting the future at scale is possible. It's up to us—finance leaders, global investors, government officials—to pave this path forward with vision, decisiveness, and commitment. At this event, we were encouraged to meet with so many exceptional government and corporate leaders who share our dedication to a healthy future for our planet and all who share it. Pictured are Ricky Fong, General Counsel, and Huey Lin, Special Projects Advisor for Terraformation. We extend our thanks to the IFF for their recognition of our Accelerator and for their work in promoting green finance. #IFF #greenfinance #SDGs #climateaction #climate

As wildfires grow more frequent and severe due to climate change, proactive fire prevention has never been more critical. That’s why we’re piloting Dryad Networks’ Silvanet technology at our Pacific Flight at Kaupalaoa site in Kohala, Hawai‘i—a high-risk area known for its dry, windy conditions. Spanning 45 acres, Kaupalaoa is where we're restoring a dryland forest, removing invasive species like buffelgrass and kiawe, and planting over 22 native species. With under 10 inches of rainfall annually, it's the perfect place to test this advanced early wildfire detection system. Silvanet's AI-powered tech constantly monitors changes in temperature, humidity, and air quality, allowing us to detect and respond to potential fire risks before they spread. Why does this matter? Early detection isn’t just about protecting land—it’s about preserving Hawai‘i’s unique biodiversity. Home to over 10,000 species found nowhere else, Hawai‘i’s delicate ecosystems are constantly threatened by fire, invasive species, and human activity. By preventing wildfires, we’re helping to protect these precious habitats and safeguard the islands’ rich biodiversity for future generations. 🌎 Learn more at our blog: https://refore.st/3CD9Bc5

We're honored to receive a $200,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to collaborate on a native-species seed bank on the Hawaiian island of Lānaʻi. The project will help restore coastal ecosystems degraded by decades of overgrazing and plantation agriculture. Part of NFWF's Kuahiwi a Kai Program, which focuses on conserving Lāna’i’s natural and cultural resources, the initiative aims to collect and store native seeds to prevent genetic loss and promote climate resilience. Terraformation’s expertise in seed banking, nursery management, and restoration will play a key role in the project's implementation. Community engagement and shared stewardship are integral to the Kuahiwi a Kai Program — and to the values at the core of every Terraformation project. We're excited to begin this work to help restore Lānaʻi and preserve its priceless natural and cultural heritage. Learn more: https://refore.st/3Z0eun9

Sembrando Futuro 2.0, a new reforestation partnership by Fundación Grupo Argos and Terraformation, will sequester almost 400K tonnes of CO2 — but its benefits don't end there. It will expand and connect native forests, enrich the resilience of the region, and protect Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs). Jaguars, hummingbirds, rare orchids — hundreds of unique species depend on the Colombian Andes for survival. But with only a third of the area's natural forests remaining, ecological restoration is urgently needed.
