At #COP29, we had the opportunity to speak with Peter Minang, Director for Africa at CIFOR-ICRAF, about two key questions: How do #forests fit into the agenda of this ‘finance COP’? And what policy commitment would truly benefit forests? Peter emphasized the vital role of forests in climate action, particularly in the context of #ClimateFinance. He pointed out the importance of targeted financing to ensure long-term support for forest conservation and #restoration efforts. 🇲🇳 Mongolia, characterized by vast steppes and arid landscapes, faces desertification and climate change, which pose a threat to rural livelihoods, biodiversity and the socio-economic health of communities. Situated between the Siberian taiga and Central Asian deserts, Mongolia faces distinct challenges in implementing its climate policy. To build resilience, Mongolia aims to: ✅ Plant one billion trees to store degraded land and enhance carbon sequestration. ✅ Increase protected areas from 14% to 30% by 2030, safeguarding critical habitats and biodiversity. ✅ Use traditional ecological knowledge to implement sustainable land management and ecosystem restoration practice. We’ll be highlighting a collaborative approach to climate action, biodiversity and desertification, illustrating our commitment to integrated solutions. Climate Week NYC is a testament of the global strides we're making.
