About us

The Good Athlete Project is an international education consulting foundation (501c3). We are on a mission to empower youth and future leaders through athletics. Athletics serve as the most powerful educational platform that exists. When done well, sports have the potential to teach character and life lessons that serve its participants well after their careers have ended. That said, not all coaches recognize its potential, leaving the platform mis- and underused. In those cases, issues of unhealthy and destructive mindsets erupt, promoting behavior that has stigmatized athletes and athletics. That's where our work begins. Through Professional Development and team-based workshops, we are enhancing athletics as an educational platform from the inside out. Make no mistake, this is not soft coaching. We acknowledge winners and losers, highlighting failure and time under tension as opportunities for growth. And while we acknowledge the value of preparing to win, as coaches, it is essential that we use that motivation to accomplish other, bigger, more lasting successes.

Teacher. Keynote speaker. Blogger. Podcaster. Husband. Father. Son. (Not necessarily in that order). 29 years in education. Graced the TEDx stage. Picked up some awards along the way.

Sharing a small piece of my NYSAHPERD keynote speech, in which I explored six stages of teaching, drawing on my personal experiences and insights from nearly three decades in education. Here’s a glimpse into the first pivotal chapter of the teaching journey—one that shaped the foundation of my career and continues to inspire my work today. https://lnkd.in/gW_d6NAP

  • 📍Obligation vs Opportunity Do you HAVE to train or do you GET to train? Do you see it as another “thing” to get through or do you see it as an opportunity to get better? Mindset is everything. The little things matter. The voice inside your head matters. The journey begins with #selftalk and how you #approach every opportunity. #DoesYourBehaviorMatchYourGoal 🔥🔥🔥 USA Wrestling - Comment “Opportunity” to receive a FREE copy of our Beyond Strength Journal of Psychology & Sport Vol. 1‼️ • Resources to improve your skills as a coach, teacher, mentor, or leader 🔥

  • The Good Athlete Project was founded by Director James (Jim) Davis while studying at Harvard University. While sitting in the back of a class on Educational Neuroscience, Jim was exposed to some of the research that validated an idea he had known all his life: the most powerful learning environment in the world already exists, and it is 100 million people strong in the U.S. alone... sports. Though there is power in sports, that power is not always used for good. Sports gone wrong is a daily headline. Over the next few years, we built methods that harness the desire of a young person to be a good athlete and direct them toward being a good person. As it turns out, the same things that maximize athletic potential have also been shown to lead to lifelong success... IF the coaches craft a culture that supports the transfer of those lessons. Contact us to find out more about how the Good Athlete Project can support the culture of your team 🔥 Does your behavior match your goal? https://lnkd.in/gVgiyJqd
