We bring together makers, developers, manufacturers, city officials & entrepreneurs to create a stronger maker community

About us

The Maker City started after a small team from Knoxville attended the first Etsy Maker Cities Summit in Brooklyn in May 2016. The team included a local maker, retailer, and city official. The idea was simple: to join 14 other teams from across the country, learn from each other, and walk away with an actionable plan to make our city more supportive of micro businesses. We left knowing that we needed to host a similar event in Knoxville, bringing together micro-businesses, manufacturers, and city officials in the same room. The ETSY MAKER CITY SUMMIT was held at The Mill & Mine on September 19, 2016. Alongside Etsy, whose industry leading online platform is driving creative entrepreneurship and manufacturing policies around the world, they explored what makes Knoxville the perfect “Maker City” through a series of interactive panel discussions about maker spaces, growing a business and creative manufacturing. Nearly 400 people attended the Etsy Maker City Summit, which kicked off Innov865 Week. Joined by Etsy representatives and the MakeKnox team, Mayor Rogero officially proclaimed Knoxville a 'Maker City' and announced the Maker Council.

  • Applications are now open for The Maker City's Holiday Marketplace! What started during the pandemic as a way to help Makers make a sale during the Holiday season, has continued as our annual tradition as the ultimate virtual maker marketplace! Here's the deal: This is FREE to be included. (Makers win.) We will post FIVE items or services from local makers on our Instagram every Monday at 8am starting on November 11 and running through December 23. From 8am - 8pm, Knoxville folks and beyond can keep bidding and at 8pm the highest bid wins! That's when you take over and complete the sale. Get creative! You can even submit a bundle of items (think gift basket). If you offer a service (like a photo session of something custom), you can submit that as well. We will accept more than one entry, but cannot guarantee we will be able to include each one. We do love options... https://lnkd.in/gARBFTNz Please share this post with your maker friends to help get the word out! Graphic designed by: Log, Art Director at Museum of Infinite Outcomes
