Introducing Therm, our latest Supplier Spotlight. Therm helps the food supply chain become more climate friendly by monetizing climate action. Therm develops and markets carbon credits to reward grocery retailers, food distributors, and dairy farmers for their climate-conscious decisions in refrigeration systems and food waste management. The carbon footprint of the global food supply chain is a pressing concern in the fight against climate change. The food supply chain, which encompasses every stage from production to consumption, is responsible for approximately 26% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Understanding the sources and impacts of these emissions is crucial for developing strategies to reduce them and promote a more sustainable future. Each stage of the food supply chain offers different opportunities for decarbonization. Due to the complex nature of the food industry, decarbonization is often slow and expensive. Therm offers immediate, permanent, affordable solutions that help members of each stage quickly address emissions. • As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on some incredible milestones that have solidified Therm’s role as a leader in tackling emissions from the food supply chain. From publishing game-changing methodologies to launching innovative projects, 2024 was a year of true innovation and measurable impact. Here’s what we achieved this year: 🥇 April: First Refrigerant Project on Canadian OBPS -Therm's first international project and first compliance project expanded our reach to new markets. 🥇 June: First ODS Destruction Project -Using Carbon Credit Principles (CCP) approved methodology, we addressed emissions from legacy refrigerants. 🥇 August: First Grocery-Driven Food Waste Diversion Project -1,300+ local grocery retailers and 18 food distribution centers are now tackling food waste, reducing emissions, and supporting food-insecure communities. 🏆 November: (was a busy month) ✒️ Published Updated Leak Detection Methodology -Expanded eligibility to reflect new technological advances with Verra's first major update in years. 🥇 First Leak Detection Credits Issued -Delivered measurable climate impact through reduced refrigerant emissions. 🥇 First Refrigerant Reclamation Credits Issued -Reduced emissions by extending the lifecycle of existing refrigerants and minimizing new production. 🏅 December: Second A-Rating Earned from BeZero Carbon -Recognized for our refrigerant transition project (ACR904), this reinforces the quality and credibility of Therm’s solutions. Every one of these milestones represents a step forward in driving measurable climate action and delivering solutions that help businesses overcome financial and technical barriers. Here’s to another year of firsts and breakthroughs in 2025. Thank you to our partners, clients, and team for making this work possible!

  • We’re proud to share that our refrigerant transition project, ACR904, has received an A-Rating from BeZero Carbon. This recognition reflects the project’s strong additionality and measurable impact in driving the adoption of lower-GWP refrigerants across supermarket locations in the southeastern U.S. Therm is committed to delivering high-quality carbon credits that help businesses take credible climate action. This second A-Rating highlights a strong pattern of quality across our projects and reinforces the role carbon finance plays in overcoming technical and financial barriers to scaling sustainable solutions. • Waste360 detailed how Therm empowers grocers and food distributors to adopt sustainable refrigeration systems and divert food waste—actions that reduce emissions and support food-insecure communities. With over 1,900 projects underway, we’re proving that climate action can be scalable and impactful. Carbon credits are a catalyst for meaningful change in an industry responsible for a third of global emissions. As our CEO Fritz Troller puts it: “With scale, we can at least bend the climate curve. If we can’t eliminate it altogether, we will bend the hell out of it.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/emadTmCT

  • Refrigerants used in commercial systems are potent greenhouse gases, with an average global warming potential over 3,000 times higher than CO₂. Many #refrigerants can be purified and reused, reducing the need for new refrigerant production and thereby cutting associated emissions and waste. Despite these benefits, less than 5% of recoverable refrigerants are reclaimed due to high costs and operational complexity. A #circulareconomy approach ensures these #superpollutants are managed sustainably to protect the planet. Let’s explore how refrigerant reclamation can drive #emissionsreductions and economic growth.

  • Our first #HFC reclamation credits are here! Created in partnership with Michigan-based Golden Refrigerant, these credits represent a bold step forward for the #circulareconomy, reducing the need for new refrigerant production and turning harmful waste into a sustainable resource. 🌎♻️ Rooted in Midwestern values of hard work and community, Golden Refrigerant is creating local jobs and championing responsible refrigerant management—all while helping to decarbonize supply chains. Want in? Now’s your chance to invest in sustainable solutions that work. Don’t miss it! https://lnkd.in/evaHSYez

  • 🎉Update alert! A huge milestone for Therm and our very own Adam Shorey—known around here as "Dr. Leak." Verra has released our co-authored update to Verified Carbon Standard Methodology VM0001, which now broadens the range of refrigerant leak detection technologies eligible for carbon credits. This means more options and flexibility for businesses looking to reduce emissions from high-impact refrigerants! This update has been a labor of love for Adam, who has poured his passion into expanding this methodology to help more companies tackle climate change head-on. As our CEO Fritz Troller said, "Expanding the scope of the VM0001 methodology is a breakthrough that gives businesses more flexibility to prevent emissions from high-impact refrigerants. Therm is excited to lead the charge in providing solutions that are both scalable and urgently needed to combat climate change.” Learn more about what this means for refrigerant management and climate solutions here: https://lnkd.in/e_gy2T-x
