𝗣𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹   I wanted to talk a little bit today about how to have a little bit more literacy around the AI noise to help people differentiate things that are potentially relevant to them outside of all the future vision kinds of things that you hear in the news and in the media. The term AI is used for the entire category of machine learning and all kinds of other subsets of AI work…and that can be confusing. According to data from Goldman Sachs published December 2024, 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 6% 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘼𝙄 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 23%-30% 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙨. Developers seem to be the highest in using the tech (approx 23%) but they make up only 2.6% of the workforce. 👉How do you make sense of what’s relevant to you? 👉The first thing is to separate physical AI applications from Digital AI. Physical AI applications are really, as the name implies, where artificial intelligence is used toward interacting in the physical world. Think about: → Autonomous vehicles → Unmanned drones → Surgical robots → Industrial automation These are physical devices that are interacting in the physical world that have very low margins for error. Artificial intelligence is being used with machine learning to drive these things. There's a lot of innovation and money being spent into this part of the field. Digital AI includes other technologies that have been around for a while like recommendation systems and predictive analytics. Most of the time, the AI tech you're hearing about more recently (since 2022) that impacts knowledge workers are Generative AI: → Large Language Models → Chat Apps (Chat GPT, Claude, Bard, Grok) Things really began to accelerate with the release of ChatGPT in 2022. A Chat App backed by an LLM. When taking in news about AI, think about the things that most likely can have an impact on your organization. For knowledge workers this is around LLMs and all the tools built on top of them. Some of the companies building the LLMs are: 👉Open AI -> ChatGPT 👉Anthropic -> Clause 👉Microsoft -> CoPilot 👉Google -> Gemini 👉Meta -> Llama 👉X AI -> Grok There are more but these are some of the prominent players. Hopefully this will help differentiate some of the noise that you're hearing from the media on AI so that you can better decipher which pieces are really most relevant to you and your organization. The content I’m creating around this tech, for me, is about: 👉Improving the literacy around AI 👉Providing tangible examples that can be used today 👉Moving people towards feeling empowered by the technology As entrepreneurs, you're already sometimes on a rocky road and now with this new technology that you're being hammered with, over and over it's hard to keep track of what you're supposed to be focused on. You’re likely:: → Bombarded with AI news and updates. → Unsure where to focus amidst the chaos. → Struggling to find AI tools that prioritize control and meaningful use. Many tools, while powerful, offer little transparency about their data or processes. Enter Notebook LM from Google's Gemini series—an AI tool designed to empower you with control over your sources and insights. Here’s why it stands out: Controlled Sources: Notebook LM lets you handpick the data it interacts with. Innovative Features: Generate podcasts with conversational summaries to review or share insights. Versatile Inputs: You can include documents, websites, URLs to YouTube videos, your google drive with docs and slides. Most LLMs now support multi-modality (audio, video, text). This has less friction if the data you have is on Google's platform. Focused Learning: Build summaries, briefing docs, or study guides tailored to your needs. You can do this with other tools, but there is specialized functionality here for study guides, audio summaries and podcast generation. Traceable References: Click on a summary point to dive directly into its source for deeper context. More LLMs are providing references now to their output but this is an important feature when wanting to dig deeper into the materials. I have found this to be a powerful way to learn and summarize data from a fixed set of data sources you control. → Gain clarity on complex topics. → Use reliable and curated data sources. → Save time with automated summaries and references. A New Powerful Research Assistant! In December 2024, Google released Gemini’s “Deep Research” feature, a powerful tool for conducting web-based research. This tool allows users to input prompts to generate detailed research plans, which can be edited and customized. It then searches multiple sites, summarizes the information, and presents it in a clear and structured format, complete with references. I love this tool because it is using data from the web that would take hours if not days to summarize and the resulting reports have references as to where all the data came from. Some Key Highlights: 👉 Functionality: → Generates editable research plans. → Searches the web, analyzing and summarizing data from various sources. → Creates reports with citations and export options 👉 Use Cases: → Business market research. → SWOT analyses. → Education 👉 Advantages: → Saves significant time compared to manual research. → Provides transparency with references…you know where the data came from. I ran an analysis for public companies in the clean energy space asking for about 30 data points. It researched 145 websites and created a comprehensive report. That likely would have taken someone a week to put together. 👉 Demo Example: → In the video I run a demo on “projected market share of consulting services for generative AI in 2025.” → It searched 30+ sites, summarized key findings, and exported the output into a detailed Google Doc. → It took about 10 minutes to complete!
