Congratulations to THRC Faculty Fellow Jessica Perotte and colleagues for their recent publication on linguistic acculturation and alcohol use in the social media age.
Recently out in Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology! Delighted and grateful to share new research from my lab along with collaborators Daniela Romero, Natalie Ceballos, Krista Howard, PhD, and Reiko Graham from the Dept. of Psychology at Texas State University. We operationalized linguistic acculturation as it occurs in social digital contexts (e.g., social media and text messaging), and examined the measure's association with alcohol use among Hispanic/Latina/o/e college students. THRC researchers Elizabeth Ekren, Maria Tomasso, and Melinda Villagran recently published a paper in the journal Sustainability that used machine learning algorithms to explore key components of #resilience based on research in 24K published studies on the topic. The results show how resilience relies on convergence to connect people and resources before, during, and after adversity. Resilience can be thought of as “bouncing forward” to something better after challenges, rather than merely “bouncing back.” To highlight the capabilities of other #AI-powered tools, we also created a short podcast with Google’s NotebookLM to share the paper’s key insights! Learn more about the science behind resilience by listening to the podcast and reading the paper here: https://ow.ly/SEks50UqaIq #TxStateResearch #Health #Sustainability #Convergence
