What does it look like when philanthropy is guided by love? ➡️ Focus on what you love about the people and communities you support: You wouldn't introduce your friends by describing their challenges, but funders often start conversations with nonprofits with a request for problem statements. ➡️ Don't let fear drive your decisions: When we fear the “what ifs” in pursuing the bold goals in our mission statements, we break trust with the organizations and communities we need to achieve those goals. ➡️ Listen better: Real listening isn't a performance or a formality; it's a transformative experience both for those listening and for those being heard. Read about six ways funders can turn love into practical action, from Tides' Diana Hunter: https://lnkd.in/emDUMRgB

There’s a lot we still don’t know about last night’s illegal and catastrophic order to freeze federal assistance. Here’s what we do know: It’s a disaster for nonprofits and the communities they serve. The time for philanthropy to step up is now — not “once we know what’s going on”; not “when we see how it all works out.” Find an organization doing critical work to support the most vulnerable, in your own community or elsewhere. Give them your money. Do it today. Don’t wait. If you don't know where to give, here are some ideas to get started: The Trans Justice Funding Project is a fund at Tides Foundation moving resources to trans communities. Give directly to the fund or visit their website for a map of grassroots trans justice organizations to support in the U.S. and U.S. territories: https://lnkd.in/gd652wjY Tides’ Frontline Justice Fund supports grassroots environmental justice led by the communities most directly impacted by pollution and climate threats. Support the fund directly or find a guide to current grantees here: https://lnkd.in/e__F-xpT Tides’ Advancing Girls Fund invests in the leadership, well-being, and advocacy of girls and young women of color and their allies. Costco, the third-largest retailer in the world, just refused to back away from their DEI initiatives because DEI is good for business. In a letter, Costco's directors explained why: ➡️ Diverse teams are more creative. ➡️ A diverse supplier base is more innovative. ➡️ It's easier to attract and retain employees when everyone feels respected, included, and valued.
