Environmental Science | Shoe Recycling | UC Santa Barbara

I'm ecstatic to announce the start of my UCSB Environmental Leadership Incubator Project, the nation's first university-wide shoe recycling program! I'd like to thank Got Sneakers for sponsoring the project in addition to the UCSB Zero Waste Committee and UCSB AS Recycling for aiding in getting the project ready for long-term implementation. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of my professors, Erika Zollett and Simone Pulver, program mentor, Sarah Siedschlag, Peter Palmer, and everyone at GotSneakers. Lastly, I'd like to thank Keith Hamm at the UCSB Current for covering the project which you can read about using the link below. I'm looking forward to continuing the implementation and expansion of this project to other UCs as well as universities nationwide! https://lnkd.in/gexjiUyz

We are excited to continue this year with the Bren Environmental Leadership (BEL) Program’s paid summer fellowships! The BEL program offers paid summer fellowships for pairs of undergraduate and graduate students (Bren MESM & PhD) to work on environmental science projects. The program includes a wide range of projects each year, including both academic environmental science research and internships with Bren-UCSB partner organizations. The mission of this program is to increase the number of first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented students working towards careers in the environmental field and natural sciences. This program presents a unique opportunity for individuals to engage in meaningful research and gain valuable professional experience. Through this program, we aim to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in environmental science and drive positive change in their communities.
