"If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough." -Muhammad Ali For those who don't know, sorry for the long overdue life update! It's been an exhilarating, crazy-busy, demanding 10 weeks. To catch you up, I'm pursuing a Master of Science in Sports Product Management at the University of Oregon! 🎓🦆 Making this change was a bit scary, but it was time to push myself further and think deeply about where I want to go in life. My purpose is to use my artistic strengths to express my cultural background through big brand moments so that I can inspire the AAPI community to pursue their passions no matter where they come from. Huge thank you to our talented professors, supportive staff, and iconic guest speakers for making our first term a memorable introduction to the industry. I'm so proud of the skills I learned and projects I created in just 10 weeks! A few fun accomplishments from Term 1: 🌺 Put Maui on the SPM map! 👟 Constructed a shoe from last-taping to heat-pressing to Strobel-sewing 🧵 Assembled a base layer garment from 3D design to pattern development to physical construction 💻 Designed my own original footwear and apparel 2D line art with Adobe Illustrator 💡 Shared my "why," industry goals, and core values with the cohort alongside some amazing classmates UO Sports Product Management Master’s Program

It’s been a busy but energizing six months since I left my materials & processes engineering career in aerospace to pivot toward creating sustainable running shoes. Let’s catch up! 👟♻️Industry Events & Initiatives I had the pleasure of attending and supporting some amazing events to deepen my understanding of sustainability in footwear: - The Materials Show & FUNCTIONAL FABRIC FAIR (powered by PERFORMANCE DAYS) – Surveyed the current materials landscape and learned about advancements that material suppliers are making with sustainable materials. - Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) Shoe Sustainability Summit – Explored industry challenges and strategies companies are implementing to meet their sustainability targets - Global Footwear & Apparel Traceability Summit – Volunteered at the inaugural event to learn about best practices in supply chain traceability and challenges with ever-evolving regulations. - Functional Fabric Fair’s Day 0 Sustainability Workshop with Jamieson Wilson and Mike B. – Strengthened my knowledge of the current state of sustainability in the fabric industry and explored circular solutions. - Made in Old Town (MiOT) Launch Event – Supported the event by interviewing civic leaders (Senator Elizabeth Steiner, Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, and Shea Flaherty Betin of Prosper Portland), industry leaders (Eric Liedtke, Nick Chope, and Michael Murphy), and local small business owners to gain insights about what they’re excited about with MiOT. 🦆Master’s Program Beginnings👨🏽🎓 I started the UO Sports Product Management Master’s Program, where I: -🩰 am reimagining ballet pointe shoes for improved durability, comfort, and longevity with Team Arneau - Kara Cranston, Maria Del Pilar Agudelo, Cade Marshall-Bowman, and Michael Smoluk -🏃♂️ Founded the UO SPM Run Club with Aaron Cooper, Tyler Davies, Maddie Haden, Amy Henderson, Liam C. Spooner, and Spyros James Vaselopulos -🌱 Founded the UO SPM Sustainability Club with Mike B. and Jamieson Wilson -💡 Built up the NRC team and got accepted to UO’s Oregon Innovation Challenge for 2025 with Nathan Kaku, Audrey Saing, Mike B., and Lauren Ha 🪡Hands-On Product Creation🧵 Had my first hands-on reps at product creation: -🎒 Learned to sew a backpack with CANVASWORKER -👕 Sewed a baselayer with Krista Cary Martenson’s guidance -👟 Assembled my first shoe with Greg Leedy’s guidance 🏃♂️Running Highlights🏅 And still managed to squeeze in some good running! -🌲 Portland Half Marathon -🐻 California International Marathon -🎂 Jordan Lee’s 30 miles for her 30th birthday 🥳 There’s been so much, but I’ve never felt so excited and so wholly myself. Everything I’m doing is aligned with the same vision. I’m grateful to be working with so many wonderful teams and for everyone who has supported my journey so far! 💚 Douglas D. Congratulations to my amazing students in the University of Oregon UO Sports Product Management Master’s Program in-person and online classes for wrapping up an incredible term in Consumer Research! This term was nothing short of impressive. Here’s what we accomplished together: ✅ 30 hours of "dynamic and engaging" class time ✅ ~567 interviews conducted with real consumers—deep insights unlocked! ✅ 26 immersive experiences out in the field ✅ 13 surveys thoughtfully designed and executed ✅ 1 unforgettable term We talked about the consumer, their experience and so many great brands including #nike, #adidas, #blackdiamond, #petzl, #underarmour, #hoka, #brooks, #arcteryx, #on, #satisfy, #salomon, #garmin, #yogitoes, #yeti, #TRE25, #TRE, #dickssportinggoods, #raideresearch, #peloton, and many more... Keep that momentum going! I’d love to stay connected—feel free to reach out with updates or questions as you move forward in the program and projects.
