About us
The USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program–Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project connects technical solutions, experts, and proven commercial processes to promote efficient and cost-effective health supply chains worldwide. Our goal is to ensure uninterrupted supplies of health commodities to save lives and to create a healthier future for all. The project directly supports five global health areas of importance to the U.S. government: • The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief to help reach the global 90-90-90 HIV/AIDS testing, treatment, and viral load suppression targets • The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative to reduce malaria deaths and substantially decrease malaria morbidity, towards the long-term goal of elimination • USAID’s population and reproductive health program to ensure that key reproductive health commodities are available for safe and reliable family planning • USAID’s maternal, newborn, and child health program to help prevent child and maternal deaths • Other public health threats as they emerge, with support for Zika and Ebola at this time Working across Africa, Asia, Central America, and the Caribbean, we operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments to ensure that lifesaving health supplies reach those most in need. The project purchases and delivers health commodities, offers comprehensive technical assistance to strengthen national supply chain systems, and provides global supply chain leadership. Since our launch, we have procured commodities for more than 50 countries, established 30 field offices, and provided technical assistance in supply chain functions in 40 countries.

Overcrowding and resource fatigue present a difficult problem for Nigeria's health clinics, resulting in diminished quality of care due to growing patient volumes. With the scale-up of multi-month dispensing (MMD) of antiretrovirals—championed by the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCP), GHSC-PSM, and other partners—this narrative is changing. Clinically stable patients now receive 3-6 months of ARVs, reducing clinic visits and easing strain on the health system. This has led to improved patient retention, economic relief for patients, and viral load suppression. In this story pharmacist Olaniyi Christiana shares how MMD has empowered healthcare workers, while patients like 73-year-old Nwangbo celebrate restored health and livelihood. GS1 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲: In 2023, the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative, through GHSC-PSM, collaborated with #Nigeria’s National #Malaria Elimination Programme to pilot the use of GS1 standardized barcodes on insecticide-treated bed nets. The pilot helped improve traceability, stock accountability, and efficiency in net distribution to households. Read: https://lnkd.in/eNB_cfbn

Evelyn, a Ghanaian caregiver, discusses the importance of bed nets in her children’s home. The U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), through GHSC-PSM, partnered with the National Malaria Elimination Program in #Ghana to deliver these lifesaving nets to orphanages that were not covered in mass campaigns. This initiative not only protects vulnerable children from #malaria but also ensures that no one is left behind in the fight for equitable #healthcare. Full story: https://lnkd.in/dDWEaz6A

We are excited to share this video featuring a U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)- supported pilot, implemented through GHSC-PSM, on leveraging GS1 standards to standardize product labeling for insecticide-treated bed nets in #Nigeria. The pilot achieved improved traceability, enhanced efficiency in net distribution to households for #malaria prevention, and improved stock accountability, and will inform #globalhealth supply chain improvements. Watch it below! #GS1
📢 We are very happy to share a new GS1 Healthcare #success story highlighting how #Nigeria’s ITN barcoding pilot is transforming the traceability and efficiency of health commodity supply chains using GS1 #standards. Through the implementation of a #GS1 standards-based approach, the pilot achieved: ✔️ Improved #traceability of insecticide-treated bed nets (#ITNs), ensuring accurate delivery to households for #malaria prevention. ✔️ #Enhanced efficiency in ITN distribution, reducing delivery times and improving stock accountability. ✔️ #Identification of best practices for label placement, such as using the GS1 #DataMatrix barcode for easier #scanning. ✔️ #Resolution of key #technical challenges, such as training operators, optimising scanning in low-light conditions, and addressing duplicate #scan issues. This initiative reflects the #collaborative efforts of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and #partners, advancing public #health by ensuring safer and more efficient health commodity distribution. The #lessons learned will guide broader #implementation efforts across Nigeria and inform global #health supply chain #improvements. Thanks to funding from USAID, GHSC-PSM procured and installed Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) plants at hospitals across #Ghana. These PSA plants are a crucial part of Ghana's oxygen ecosystem, ensuring a consistent supply of medical oxygen for patients in need. Learn more below about the installation of these plants and how GHSC-PSM has been able to increase their capacity to meet rising demand from the hospitals and health facilities being served by the PSA plants.

We are honored to share that USAID/Nigeria has awarded USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project in #Nigeria a 🏅 Supply Chain Excellence Award 🏅 for the project's ongoing commitment to "working toward more resilient and efficient supply chains." Through close collaboration with the Government of Nigeria and other key partners, GHSC-PSM works on behalf of USAID to ensure that critical resources—such as life-saving #HIV treatment and HIV testing commodities—are available across Nigeria, improving access to HIV prevention, testing, and treatment. Thank you to USAID for this recognition. We remain steadfast in our mission to support #USAID and #PEPFAR’s goal of ending the global HIV epidemic. #EndAIDS2030 #SupplyChain #SupplyChainExcellence

In February of this year, a nurse in Zambia became the first outside the US to offer her clients long-acting injectable #cabotegravir (CAB-LA) for #PrEP outside of a study. This was a monumental event for all working to end the HIV epidemic. #EndAIDS2030 GHSC-PSM was instrumental in procuring more than 335,000 vials of CAB-LA and delivering the first shipments to nine PEPFAR countries in 2024 while working to expand to other countries in 2025. USAID and #PEPFAR, through GHSC-PSM, are expanding #HIVprevention options and ensuring people have access to a range of prevention products that are safe, effective, easy to use, affordable, scalable, and meet people's evolving #HIV protection needs over their lifetimes. #PEPFARSavesLives “My clients used to come every month for a refill of their medication and now they will come every two months” - Dorcas Kapupa. Full story - USAID/Zambia, https://lnkd.in/gd55PKgQ What is Cab-LA? PrEP is the use of antiretroviral drugs by people who do not have HIV to prevent HIV acquisition. Studies have shown that PrEP significantly reduces the likelihood of acquiring HIV and, following the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, should be offered to those at risk of acquiring HIV. CAB-LA is an intramuscular injectable long-acting form of PrEP, packaged in glass vials. To begin this form of PrEP, individuals first receive two injections administered four weeks apart, followed thereafter by an injection every eight weeks. CAB-LA, manufactured by ViiV Healthcare, is the first long-acting injectable PrEP option which, according to clinical research, has the potential to dramatically change the course of #HIV. It is more discreet and long-lasting than once-daily oral PrEP and may present a more manageable option for those who have trouble taking a pill every day to prevent HIV.
