Yesterday was a masterclass in practicing what you preach. Gary Vaynerchuk demonstrated why his “clouds and dirt” philosophy is more than just a mantra—it’s a blueprint for staying relevant and thriving in an ever-changing business landscape. In the morning, Gary was on CNBC, arguably the most influential business platform in the U.S., sharing high-level insights on the growing trend of Social LiveCommerce and its inevitable disruption of retail and consumer goods industries. This is the “clouds”—strategic thinking, vision, and thought leadership that inspires others to see what’s coming next. But just a few hours later, he was in the “dirt”—streaming on WhatNot for 7+ hours with VeeFriends. Yes, the same Gary who was on CNBC in the morning rolled up his sleeves and spent hours engaging directly with consumers on the platform, promoting and selling products, from collectible Christmas ornaments to new t-shirt drops, while telling stories and educating about our 280+ character franchise. Why does this matter? Most executives would argue that time in the “dirt” isn’t the highest-and-best use of a leader’s schedule. That’s what their junior employees are for.
