Venture for THEM (Tech High-Performers & Entrepreneurial Minorities) upbuilds HBCU early-stage tech entrepreneurs

About us

Venture for THEM (Tech High-Performers & Entrepreneurial Minorities) is a cohort-based startup accelerator for minority founders. Through our accelerator, startups will receive funding, coaching, mentorship, network opportunities, and various other resources to excel in their early-stage operations. Our accelerator was conceptualized to combat the biases in the venture capital and technology industries. Although a record-breaking total of $147B has been raised in venture capital deal flow this year, only 1.2% of that was sourced to Black founders (Inc, 2021). Our mission of “invest in a better tomorrow” emphasizes the importance of empowering underrepresented founders – which will create a ripple effect of opportunities for not only founders and investors, but also the users who benefit from their innovation and life-enhancing technology.

End of semester (2nd year, 1st semester) recap🎉…but with a twist. Every time when I’ve done my previous semester recap, it’s mostly sharing my accomplishments and successes. I decided to do it differently this semester because I know how intimidating it can be to see a list of accomplishments and douting if you are doing enough. (P.S. You are❤️! The fact that you think about it and desire more means you are on the right track!) This year has taught me that you will encounter a lot of failures before getting the success you desire. All that being said, here are the highlights from my second year, first semester. Successes: ✅ Maintained a perfect G.P.A and made the President’s list (took 21 credits, actually 22 but a 1 credit course was taken as 0 credits) ✅ Selected for the Goldman Sachs Emerging Leaders Series ✅ Got inducted into the Earl Lester Cole Honors college (desired this since my first year) ✅ Completed the Black Girl Ventures (BGV) NextGen program (1 of 25 student visionaries) ✅ Flew to Washington D.C. to attend the BGV NextGen summit and visited the Visa office ✅ Elected as first Student Government Association (SGA) Representative for the African Student Association ✅ Won 1st runner up at the Golden Pitch competition ✅ Selected as ambassador for HBCUniverse and Venture for T.H.E.M. ✅ Inducted into the President Student Leadership Initiative (giving me a possible opportunity to work with the President’s office, Pres. Martin Lemelle) ✅ Completed the Harvard Aspire Institute Leaders Program and was recognized for increasing Grambling student applications for the next cohort ✅ Served as a member of the Grambling State University concert choir ✅ Selected as a finalist for the BizTech challenge organized by Nexus Louisiana and pitched on the grand stage in New Orleans Now, it’s time for the failures or better said, opportunities that’ve helped me grow. Growth opportunities: ✅ Thought I would fail a class when I fell to around 70% after midterm exams (ended the class with over 100%) ✅ Lost my on-campus job due to budget cuts ✅ Spent the entire semester with no job and struggling financially ✅ Participated in the I3 competition at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University but did not make it to the final pitch (took an almost 48 hour bus trip to and fro to North Carolina for it) ✅ Engaged in two other pitch competitions but didn’t win any(Lost 3 pitch competitions before getting a win at the Golden pitch competition) ✅ Rejected for many programs and applications I hope this post inspires someone reading to know that the failures are all part of the process to getting those wins! Don’t let others accomplishments make you feel like you are not doing well; behind the successes you see are many failures. Keep going and maintain persistence! Merry Christmas break and happy holidays everyone 🎊 Last post for 2024💃 2025 will be better!!!

Wild ’N Out World Tour🎤🌍 I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Wild ’N Out World Tour this past Friday as an HBCUniverse Ambassador! 🎉 A huge thank you to, Venture for T.H.E.M. , Fearless and all the amazing sponsors who made this experience possible. During the event, I had the privilege of participating in a VIP panel, networking with inspiring leaders, professors, and reconnecting with my cohorts from Coppin State, Tennessee State, Morgan State, and many more. This experience was more than just an event; it was a celebration of community, inspiration, and the power of education and advocacy. A special shoutout to the incredible panelists and the CFA Marketing team who shared their insights and stories—it was an honor to share space with so many trailblazers. Opportunities like these fuel my passion for learning and growing, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next. 💫 #HBCUniverse #WildnOutTour #Networking #Gratitude
