Congratulations to Jacques Audiard’s "Emilia Pérez" for winning Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña and Best Original Song for ‘El Mal’ by Camille and Clément Ducol, to “Flow” by French producer Ron DYENS for securing Best Animated Feature, and to “The Substance” for taking home Best Makeup and Hairstyling for Pierre-Olivier Persin, Stéphanie Guillon, and Marilyne Scarselli. [NEW YORK] How can environmentalism be understood through the lenses of secularization and colonialism? 🌍 Don't miss philosopher and historian Mohamed Amer Meziane for a conversation on his book "The States of the Earth: An Ecological and Racial History of Secularization" (Verso Books). In this latest work, Meziane explores how colonial powers reshaped religion and imposed a “civilizing mission" justifying exploitation, arguing that these 19th century forces contributed to today’s global inequalities and environmental crises. This Saturday, Villa Albertine Houston had the pleasure of participating in the Journée de la Francophonie at The University of Texas at San Antonio! 🎓 This annual event brings together high school students studying French, giving them the opportunity to showcase their language skills through competitions while discovering the rich diversity of Francophone cultures from countries like Morocco, Lebanon, Tunisia, Senegal... 🧑🏫 Don't miss the chance to join TAPIF - Teaching Assistant Program in France - USA for the 2025-2026 academic year! Each year, TAPIF places 1,300 Americans to work as English language teaching assistants in French public schools. The program provides a global pre-professional experience, as well as full French linguistic and cultural immersion. It also aims to strengthen cross-cultural exchange and English language instruction in French schools. TAPIF provides a monthly stipend and health insurance to all participants. Candidates must be between the ages of 20 and 35, native English speakers, and US citizens or permanent residents. Intermediate proficiency in French is required. Congratulations to visual artist Kiki Smith on being awarded the French Ministry of Culture’s insignia of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters! 🏅 In a ceremony hosted at the headquarters of Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education, Cultural Counselor of France and Director of Villa Albertine Mohamed Bouabdallah recounted Smith’s deep and emotional relationship with France, and how the French audience has returned this connection in turn. Bouabdallah noted the numerous French institutions that have welcomed Smith’s work over the years, including Avignon’s Palais des Papes during the exhibition “Les Papesses”, the MONNAIE DE PARIS for Smith’s first major retrospective curated by Camille Morineau, as well as the BNF as part of its ongoing “Apocalypse” exhibition, which features some of the rarest texts and illustrations in France’s cultural heritage. We are so glad for the role France played in providing new sources of artistic inspiration throughout your life.
