A Journey of Service and Impact! 🌟 Since joining Volunteers of America Texas in 2006, Beanca has spent nearly nineteen years making a difference in the lives of those with disabilities. Her journey began right after college, working as a Direct Care Professional in New Orleans, helping medically fragile children with disabilities. Driven by a deep desire to serve, she’s spent nearly thirty seven years impacting lives and advocating for the vulnerable. Her proudest milestone at VOA Texas came in 2019 with the launch of the Vocational Opportunity and Training Services program. What started as a vision to help individuals with disabilities find meaningful employment became a reality, giving people the chance to work, contribute to their communities and gain dignity through employment. As we celebrate Black History Month, she reflects on its significance. "Black History Month is a time to remember our past, honor our resilience and celebrate how far we’ve come.” It’s about acknowledging the strength of a community that has faced adversity and continues to thrive. “I look forward to a future where inclusiveness is seen as a gift,” she says, envisioning a society that celebrates the richness of all cultures. Through her work, Beanca exemplified the power of service, making a lasting impact on individuals and communities alike. 💚 💛 ♥️ #HealthyCommunitiesforAll #BlackHistoryMonth #VOATexas

Unbreakable Spirit: Celebrating Black History at VOA Texas Celebrating eight years with VOA Texas and what a journey it's been for LaSonya Bishop, Program Director in Houston, TX! "I make a living by making a difference because I know I wouldn't be here without the kindness and guidance of others. Every day, I’m fulfilled knowing I’m making a positive impact in the lives of those around me. One of the most memorable moments of my career is contributing to the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts while my own home was underwater – it was humbling, emotional, and unforgettable. Black History Month is my time to honor the resilience and strength of those who paved the way, empowering me to continue the work they started." Thank you LaSonya for serving our Houston community and allowing us to share your story during Black History Month! #HealthyCommunitiesforAll #BlackHistoryMonth #VOATexas

Residents at our Dallas Senior Housing locations, The Oaks and Oak Lawn Place celebrated Valentine’s Day in style, filled with dancing, delicious food, and plenty of love to go around! The celebration truly captured the essence of love and community, leaving everyone with full hearts and smiles that lasted well into the evening. It was a perfect way to spread love and joy to all! At The Oaks, VOA Texas Service Coordinator, Hector Ortiz-Lopez added a special touch by personally handing out beautiful floral arrangements to the residents, while @sunsetmedicalexplorers served desserts! 💞 #VOATexas #HealthyCommunitiesForAll

DALLAS GETS AFFORDABLE HOUSING RIGHT 🏡 Writing we love to read from The Dallas Morning News Architecture Critic Mark Lamster, "You can find my favorite new building in Dallas on what was until recently a junkyard littered with rusting boats, abandoned cars, discarded beer cans and 48 feral cats." Click the image below to read the full story. Allyn client Resource Center CEO Cece Cox said, “Everybody has ideas about what affordable housing means, and this project busts people’s perceptions.” "Oak Lawn Place is its first entry into the housing market, completed in partnership with Matthews Southwest and Volunteers of America. As its name suggests, the building is in Oak Lawn, the neighborhood that has been the epicenter of gay life in Dallas for decades." ABOUT RESOURCE CENTER Our Mission: Resource Center pursues societal equity by proudly offering LGBTQIA+ affirming resources designed to improve health and wellness, strengthen families and communities, and provide transformative education and advocacy. We value being: - Culturally humble - Equitable in our approach - Nimble in the face of change - Transformative in our advocacy - Enthusiastic about our impact - Relentless in pursuit of our vision - Evolving with our community - Deliberate in all that we do Our Vision: Resource Center envisions an equitable society in which all community members are afforded the opportunity to thrive without bias or barriers based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or HIV status. #Allyn #AllynMedia #ResourceCenter #OakLawnPlace Erin Ragsdale Monica Cordova Mari Woodlief Jennifer Pascal, MPA
