ModeScore has awarded its first US certification to New York’s PENN DISTRICT campus, recognising Vornado Realty Trust's success in transforming the area into a greener, more accessible, and more connected commercial hub with a Platinum ModeScore rating 🏆 Situated directly above Penn Station, THE PENN DISTRICT has come to life from a meticulous masterplan developed by Foster + Partners, under the direction of Vornado, to dramatically transform the experience for office tenants, commuters, and visitors. With direct proximity to the busiest transit hub in North America, THE PENN DISTRICT earned a high score in the Public Transport section of the ModeScore assessment. The district also impressed in the Site-wide Mobility section, thanks to the prevalence of both pedal-powered and electric deliveries to the site 🚛⚡️ Vornado worked with New York City to reconfigure the streets around Penn Station and Madison Square Garden to create a connected campus for PENN 1 and PENN 2. The works included separating and updating the entrances to the office buildings, closing 33rd Street to create an outdoor pedestrian park, and upgrading entrances to create barrier-free access to commuter, regional and national train systems. James Nash, co-founder of ModeScore and ActiveScore, said: “We're thrilled to see Vornado Realty Trust’s PENN DISTRICT lead the way in the USA with North America’s first ModeScore certification. This marks a significant step towards our shared vision for sustainable mobility in real estate. The new PENN DISTRICT feels open, intuitively interconnected, effortless and exhilarating. Together, we're paving the way for a greener, more accessible and more connected future.” Glen Weiss, Executive Vice President of Vornado Realty Trust, said: “We are honored to be the country’s first recipient of ModeScore certification. Sustainability and accessibility have been at the core of our vision for THE PENN DISTRICT. We are proud to have transformed the area into a beautiful, welcoming, and dynamic destination for all those who come to the District.” #THEPENNDISTRICT #NewYork #ModeScore #ModeScorePlatinum #ESG

Fast Company recently toured THE PENN DISTRICT, exploring its remarkable transformation into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly tech hub. “Where once there was a FedEx, there is now a Blue Bottle Coffee. Just next door, there is an upscale sushi bar, a hip taqueria, a Roberta’s Pizza, and an Anita Gelato, both opening this month. The surrounding buildings have been retrofitted, reskinned, and repositioned for tech giants...and the stretch of 33rd street where I am sitting—between 7th and 8th Avenue—has become a pedestrian oasis called Plaza 33, complete with a swooping new entrance to MSG and Penn Station.” Read more about THE PENN DISTRICT’s transformation at the link below. https://lnkd.in/eZufHpyz

The Real Deal recently toured PENN 2, led by Brad Zizmor of Architecture Plus Information (A+I) and Dan Shannon of MdeAS Architects, who designed the interior and exterior of PENN 2. Their collaboration focused on "designing from the inside out," emphasizing that an office worker’s experience extends beyond the office to the building’s surroundings.
