WATSON continues to work towards a traceable and transparent food supply chain!    Recently, our Norwegian partners 🇳🇴 Hermes AS and SINTEF Nord collaborated on an exciting phase of the project, focusing on Norwegian white fish traceability. 🐟    Sensors are being deployed to monitor the fish's journey after it leaves the boat, tracking temperature, humidity and movement patterns in real time via mobile networks. 📡     Innovative methods and tools developed under #WatsonProject aim to ensure quality and safety at every stage, from the sea to the consumer's plate.     Stay tuned for more updates!    #HorizonEU #ResearchImpactEU #EUInnovation European Research Executive Agency (REA) EU Science, Research and Innovation

📢 Yesterday #WatsonProject held its online 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 & 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, gathering over 70 participants from our 45 partner organisations across Europe!    This event marked a crucial moment to review and discuss project progress and future steps, as we have entered the 2nd half of our project and continue to move forward together towards a safer and more transparent food system in Europe. ✅ Our coordinator, University College Dublin, provided a comprehensive overview of scientific and implementation progress. ✅ Presentations from our partners SINTEF, INESC TEC, VTT, reframe.food and Smart Agro Hub highlighted recent achievements, challenges and upcoming steps in each work package. ✅ Our Advisory Board shared valuable feedback and recommendations to guide WATSON’s next phase. The Finnish pre-pilot in #WATSONproject was started in Vaasa in Bock's Corner Brewery on Saturday 2.11. during the Autumn Haymarket event with dairy and cereal chain. Cheeses from #Hämeen ammatti-instituutti ja beer from #Bock's Corner Brewery were included in the pilot. #UpCodeworld had developed smart tags for the products. Their approach? 🔎 A social justice lens that redefines authenticity and transparency in our food systems. 💭Still reflecting on the wonderful experience during the 4th International workshop on System Innovation towards Sustainable Agriculture (SISA-4): Transitions towards sustainable agriculture and food systems: Connecting research and practice held at the University of Kassel (Germany), 07.-09. October 2024. 💭The workshop invited researchers and practitioners to co-generate an integrative overview on contemporary issues in agri-food transitions and future avenues in research, policy making as well as in innovation and transition practice. 🍯During the event I was happy to bring perspectives on social justice to the debate on socially and environmentally agrifood just #transitions by presenting research findings from the Horizon Europe WATSON project on "Reconceptualising food fraud vulnerability towards socially and environmentally just agri-food transitions, preserving the authenticity of Spanish honey". The SISA-4 Workshop was organized by the Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences at the Kassel University and supported by the Sustainability Transitions Network, the Synergia program on Technology for Ecology at Wageningen University and Research and LabEx SITES on Science, Innovation and Technology in Society at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Society (IFRIS) of UniversitéGustave Eiffel (UGE). #SynergyDays2024 was an incredible experience! The Barcelona edition successfully connected communities, uniting >40 EU projects and EU Digital Innovation Hubs with over 400 participants from the agri-food sector. Plenary sessions and workshops brought together SMEs, research institutes, EU policymakers, public administration, and European food and agriculture associations to share knowledge, identify challenges, and outline the next steps toward a clean and sustainable food industry. BioCoS participated under two EU projects with complementary initiatives, with workshops showcasing their impact! WATSON a flagship EU project providing cutting-edge solutions to combat food fraud, and FoodDataQuest EU targeting on pioneering data-driven solutions for an inclusive, sustainable, and healthy food system. On October 16th, the second project meeting of #FDQ took place, allowing involved partners to discuss and refine the design of a structured collaborative strategy aimed at driving data transformation in food systems within the confines of legal and policy frameworks. 🚨 The latest 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 (September 2024) highlights several food fraud cases showcasing the ongoing battle against fraudulent practices.
