EVs are an interesting Distributed Energy Resource #DER for utilities that wish to not only shift electrical demand but also shape electrical load. These vehicles will continue impacting the grid as #EV adoption increases on the #GridEdge at both residential and commercial premises. Our Active #ManagedCharging program decreases peak demand and shifts #ElectricVehicle charging from expensive on-peak hours to affordable off-peak hours…all while ensuring that vehicles are charged before customers leave their homes. The visual shows our summer Time of Use Rates #TOU as the first layer on a 48-hour timeline. You'll notice that weekday #electricity is expensive from 13:00-19:00 (1pm to 7pm). We overlaid the weekday rates with a snapshot of #optimized charging data so you could see how well our #optimization signal shifts #energy consumption toward specific off-peak hours when #renewables are abundant. However, people often say "This shift is pretty good...but HOW good is it?" Thanks to Guidehouse and WeaveGrid partnerships over the last few years, we could add a purple Plug-In Counterfactual line that assumes EVs would have started charging when they were originally plugged in. We also added a blue Baseline Counterfactual that leverages data from a sample of drivers who charged without an optimized schedule (we assume this sample size represents the entire population). We leverage these #counterfactuals to estimate how drivers would have charged without our optimized schedule in order to calculate the benefits of #SmartCharging for our grid.

🚘 ➡ ⚡️ V2G Live Demo! Last week, WeaveGrid, Kia America, and Wallbox Chargers hosted a live demonstration of grid-interconnected bidirectional EV charging at the Smart Grid Observer V2G Business, Policy & Technology Forum at the American Center for Mobility in Detroit. During the demo, a Kia EV9, equipped with a Wallbox Quasar 2 charger, was used to both charge and discharge energy in a vehicle battery, demonstrating the vehicle's ability to interact with the electric grid. Curious to learn more about the demo? Check out our blog post with all the details in the comments. Huge shout out to Lorenzo García, Diana Gilmore, Alex Pawlowski, Valerie Frank, Chris Morgan, and Alissa Harrington for bringing this demo to life! #V2G #V2H #ElectricVehicles #EV #Kia #Wallbox #CleanEnergy #Innovation #Quasar2 #BidirectionalCharging #EVSE #LiveDemo

California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) plays an essential role in supporting the state’s ambitious transportation electrification and climate goals. In the current program update cycle, policymakers have included proposed measures that will increase access to vehicle-grid integration (VGI) funding. This is critical because as electric vehicle (EV) adoption across the state rapidly increases, we need VGI to ensure that EV charging is as inexpensive and clean as possible. LCFS is a fundamental piece of the transportation electrification support system in California. WeaveGrid urges the California Air Resources Board to vote YES on the proposed amendments that continue to strengthen the program.

Less than a month until Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s 2024 Innovation Summit presented by DISTRIBUTECH! #AcceleratingInnovation #AI #ArtificialIntelligence Join us on Wednesday, November 13, in San Jose, alongside leading utilities and energy-focused organizations, to explore the latest in #ClimateTech, #FireTech, and #GridTech. This is an excellent opportunity to actively collaborate in bridging the gap between today's energy systems and our electrified, decarbonized future. We're excited to showcase the EV Charge Manager program, which utilizes our distribution-integrated smart charging orchestration (DISCO) solution. This innovative program transforms EVs into flexible grid assets through a targeted managed charging approach in some of the most EV-dense counties in the U.S. WeaveGrid's DISCO algorithm effectively aggregates and predicts EV charging loads at the distribution transformer level, orchestrating optimized charge schedules across clusters of EVs. DISCO not only lowers peak loads but also helps maintain service reliability and avoid costly upgrades. Don't miss out - check the comments for the full press release and to register for the event. We can't wait to connect and share insights with all of you!
