The creative team of Wiencek + Associates Architects + Planners, Inc. and Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) had a great time constructing our "Barbie Operating a Jackhammer" display for #CANstruction2024 at the National Building Museum. We hope Barbie will continue to inspire others as she raises awareness about hunger and inspires women in construction! Congratulations to our client, Gilbane Development Company, for closing on the financing of the second phase of the Belmont Green project in Washington, DC. Our two buildings will consist of 116 units with a mix of one, two and three bedroom unit types, along with amenities for the residents. We have had a great team working alongside of us, including Ehlert Bryan Engineering Consulting, OCI Associates, Sustainable Building Partners, and Bozzuto Construction Company. We are all eager for the project to break ground this month!

Our team toured the Carl F West Senior construction site prior to last week's Topping Out event. This new independent senior living community will feature 179 affordable units including 36 uniquely designed “grand-family” units for grandparents raising grandchildren. Perfect day to watch the top floor concrete pour with post-tension cables being installed, while enjoying spectacular views of DC. #affordablehousing, #seniorliving, #designempoweringpeople

We are so pleased to announce that LISNER LOUISE DICKSON HURT HOME earned a Vision Award for 2024 by the The Committee of 100 on the Federal City. The Committee recognized the Home for its outstanding collaboration with public and private sources and the community to expand its long-standing mission of caring for low- and moderate-income seniors. After a flood in 2020 rendered a portion of the historic assisted living building unhabitable, Wiencek + Associates Architects + Planners, Inc., developed a strategy to restore and improve the facility. The renovation plan features 45 handicapped-accessible private rooms and baths that will enable individuals to comfortably age in place; full renovation is scheduled for completion by mid-December 2024. Our firm also designed an adjacent new 93-unit building for affordable independent senior living that the Home is developing with Urban Atlantic. The Home’s resourceful, creative and collaborative approach serves as a replicable model for developing affordable housing throughout Washington, DC and turned tragedy into opportunity in service of DC’s low-income seniors. Wiencek + Associates Architects + Planners, Inc. and Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) are excited to partner together to help the Capital Area Food Bank raise awareness about hunger in DC. CANstruction is a creative design-build competition with this years' theme being the perfect compliment for our two firms: "Construction Tools and Equipment." All projects will be constructed out of canned food, displayed at the National Building Museum during November for the public, and then donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.
