In 2024, the Netherlands made a groundbreaking achievement by generating more renewable electricity than grey electricity for the first time according to Nationaal Klimaat Platform (NKP). This shift towards sustainable energy sources marks a significant milestone in the country's commitment to combating climate change. However, according to NKP, this could have been even higher if the Netherlands had options to store energy, such as in green hydrogen. This improves the overall efficiency and reliability of the Dutch energy grid. With Zeevonk, Vattenfall, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) are investing in the supply of green hydrogen generated by offshore wind. In the New Year we will continue to work on making #Zeevonk a reality. Happy New Year, we wish you the best for 2025! https://lnkd.in/eGxtVzb9 #greenhydrogen #Vattenfall #CIP Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

The European Commission has approved the first certification schemes for renewable fuels, including hydrogen. This milestone allows producers to officially certify their hydrogen as "green" under EU standards. Green hydrogen plays an important role in Zeevonk, a joint project by Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. An integral and important component of the Zeevonk project is the development of up to 1GW of green hydrogen production, alongside the establishment of a 2GW offshore wind farm. Three certification schemes have been approved by the Commission: • REDcert-EU • ISCC EU • CertifHy This enables hydrogen producers worldwide to obtain EU-recognized certification, access funding, and contribute to EU renewable energy goals. The Delta Rhine Corridor, a critical energy infrastructure project connecting the Port of Rotterdam to Germany, is being scaled down to speed up its completion. It is now focusing on hydrogen and CO2 to ensure timely delivery by 2031-2032. This project is essential for the future of our industry. Installing pipelines for hydrogen and CO2 reduces greenhouse gas emissions and provides the necessary infrastructure for cleaner production. "This not only contributes to climate goals but also strengthens the development of a sustainable economy," says Minister Sophie Hermans (Climate and Green Growth). By laying pipelines for hydrogen and CO2, industries in the Netherlands and Germany can become more sustainable, significantly reducing CO2 emissions. It strengthens the strategic and economic position of industrial areas in the Netherlands and Germany. https://lnkd.in/eEnA3cTa #DeltaRhineCorridor #Hydrogen #GreenEconomy #Infrastructure

reNEWS - Renewable Energy News has published its ‘Global Offshore Wind Report’. The 96-page special report provides an in-depth analysis of the key markets for the sector. The Netherlands is a significant market for offshore wind. One of the largest parks currently being planned in the Dutch North Sea is Zeevonk, a joint project by Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. Green hydrogen plays an important role in this project. The economics around green hydrogen production, in particular, require much preparation, as offtakers remain few and far between. “We are conducting thorough market research to identify demand, potential customers, and optimal service conditions. This proactive approach will help us tailor our production and distribution strategies to meet market needs effectively,” explains Felix Wuertenberger, Programme Director Zeevonk, in the report. We have started with our partner Fugro the site investigations of our offshore site in the North Sea using a spread of advanced survey vessels and technologies. Our pair of survey ships will cover a distance exceeding 7.600 kilometers during this mission. It started this month and is set to run non-stop 24/7 until April 2025. "The Zeevonk site has a number of distinct characteristics such as man-made seabed obstructions, strong current flows, and extensive sand formations. The sand waves reaching heights of up to three meters with steep slopes pose a challenge for our equipment that is towed near the seabed, and therefore are carefully controlled to acquire the high-resolution data essential for engineering and routing decisions", states Rory Anderson, who leads the team of geophysicists working on this project of Vattenfall & Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. The team will collect real-time data at 192 spots within the Zeevonk location at depths varying between 6 meters and 50 meters deep. "This information is crucial for determining the techniques required for installing monopiles planned for three years from now." explains David Brito, the Chief Geotechnical Engineer at Zeevonk. “Obtaining data now ensures that the future electrical cables will be able to efficiently transmit sustainable energy." #Zeevonk #OffshoreWind #Geoscience #RenewableEnergy #Vattenfall #CIP Photo's: #Fugro
