To wrap up National Apprenticeship Week, we're celebrating our Construction Pre-Apprenticeship community partners: Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Program, Portland YouthBuilders, Oregon Tradeswomen, POIC, and LatinoBuilt. Registered Pre-Apprenticeship programs are designed to help people build the necessary skills to meet the minimum entry qualifications for apprenticeships. They are a vital first step for individuals -- especially those from traditionally underserved communities -- wanting to enter the trades. Since July 1, 2024, 141 individuals joined our partners' pre-apprenticeship programs, achieving a 94% completion rate. Among them, 32% identify as female, 65% as BIPOC, and 14% as both. Over one-third of graduates have transitioned to Registered Apprenticeships or similar construction careers.

Did you know it's National Apprenticeship Week?! https://lnkd.in/dyS95wm The Portland region boasts a strong system of apprenticeship programs, with employment in this sector increasing by 30% between 2019 and 2023. With a location quotient of 3, apprenticeship training is more than three times as concentrated in the Portland MSA as the national average.* *Employment concentration quantifies the concentration of employed workers in a region relative to the national average. It can reveal what makes a particular region “unique” in comparison to the national average. Apprenticeship training has a high employment concentration.

WorkSource Oregon Reentry looks to relieve one of the most stressful parts of leaving prison by bringing job training and employment services inside correctional facilities. We're looking to build on this successful statewide prerelease strategy to connect folks to workforce services while in correctional facilities. https://lnkd.in/gWuTf--3

We are a proud recipient of a Future Ready Oregon Workforce Ready Grant in the amount of $1,000,000! These funds will help us expand the Quick Start to Semiconductor program in partnership with Portland Community College, Mt. Hood Community College, semiconductor employers, and community-based organizations. 270 participants from priority populations (including low-income, women, and communities of color) will receive training and cost-of-living stipends so they can earn while they learn.  

Two weeks ago, local businesses and community members gathered for "Building Bright Futures," presented by the Columbia-Willamette Workforce Collective (Worksystems, Workforce SW Washington, and Clackamas Workforce Partnership). During the event, a panel of businesses and young adults spoke about innovative ways to engage young workers. In addition, Dr. Liza Morehead shared key data about youth in our region. Our team participated in a Quality Jobs Lunch and Learn session along side our Columbia-Willamette Workforce Collaborative partners, Clackamas Workforce Partnership and Worksystems. Dr. Boglarka K. gave an informative presentation on how to apply human centered design principles to better center the voice of workers and learners and promote racial equity.
