Coordinating a regional workforce system that supports individual prosperity and business competitiveness
About us
Worksystems is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that pursues and invests resources to improve the quality of the workforce in the City of Portland, Multnomah and Washington Counties. We develop policies and design workforce development programs and services delivered through a network of local partners to help people get the skills, training and education they need to go to work or to advance in their careers. Our partners include employers, labor groups, government, community colleges, high schools, community-based and economic development organizations. Our mission is to coordinate a regional workforce system that supports individual prosperity and business competitiveness. We ensure that the public workforce system serves business by developing qualified employees and giving current and future workers the skills and support they need to successfully engage, advance, and succeed in the labor market. Worksystems is funded in part through the US Department of Labor. We are an equal opportunity employer. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities. To wrap up National Apprenticeship Week, we're celebrating our Construction Pre-Apprenticeship community partners: Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Program, Portland YouthBuilders, Oregon Tradeswomen, POIC, and LatinoBuilt. Registered Pre-Apprenticeship programs are designed to help people build the necessary skills to meet the minimum entry qualifications for apprenticeships. They are a vital first step for individuals -- especially those from traditionally underserved communities -- wanting to enter the trades. Since July 1, 2024, 141 individuals joined our partners' pre-apprenticeship programs, achieving a 94% completion rate. Among them, 32% identify as female, 65% as BIPOC, and 14% as both. Over one-third of graduates have transitioned to Registered Apprenticeships or similar construction careers.

Did you know it's National Apprenticeship Week?! https://lnkd.in/dyS95wm The Portland region boasts a strong system of apprenticeship programs, with employment in this sector increasing by 30% between 2019 and 2023. With a location quotient of 3, apprenticeship training is more than three times as concentrated in the Portland MSA as the national average.* *Employment concentration quantifies the concentration of employed workers in a region relative to the national average. It can reveal what makes a particular region “unique” in comparison to the national average. Apprenticeship training has a high employment concentration.

Two weeks ago, local businesses and community members gathered for "Building Bright Futures," presented by the Columbia-Willamette Workforce Collective (Worksystems, Workforce SW Washington, and Clackamas Workforce Partnership). During the event, a panel of businesses and young adults spoke about innovative ways to engage young workers. In addition, Dr. Liza Morehead shared key data about youth in our region.
