The Material Design and Modelling group participated in the 7th Iberoamerican Meeting On Ionic Liquids IMIL2024 held in Coimbra (Portugal)📍 through scientific posters and oral presentations. Dr. Santiago Aparicio gave a keynote lecture about "Deep Eutectic Solvents (DES) for Natural Compounds Extraction". Nuria Aguilar and Sara Rozas Azcona presented research' results about DES focusing on their behavior in confinement, hydrocarbon solubilization, and helicene solubility through computational and theoretical approaches. https://lnkd.in/dUigBQYU

I am happy and proud of the graduation of my former student Pablo Almendras Flores who got his master in #Chemical_Engineering with a thesis on the recycling of waste vegetable oils. Exploring the intricate nature of natural deep eutectic solvents (#NADES) is the focus of our latest study, published in Molecular Liquids. Through collaboration with Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, Universidad de Burgos, ICCRAM University of Burgos, and CMICPolimi, we investigated liquid state properties, intermolecular forces, nanoscale structures, toxicity, and environmental impacts of NADES derived from fatty acids and menthol. This marks a pivotal achievement in my scientific journey. It is the first paper following my gap year at the #IUVS beamline at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, underscoring a significant milestone in my academic profile. It also represents the inaugural UV Raman investigation of #DES documented in the literature.
