This latest investment will be used to advance its fusion technology, focusing efforts on the Century platform— a test platform which integrates the critical systems necessary for a Z-pinch power plant, including liquid metals and cutting-edge pulsed power. Today we’re excited to unveil #Century, a major new demo of Zap fusion power plant technologies. If the race to develop fusion is a triathlon with science, engineering and commercialization legs, we’re on our bike and pedaling hard. We’re adding some new logos to our racing kit too, with a fresh round of $130 million from Soros Fund Management, Mizuho, Emerson Collective, Leitmotif, BAM Elevate, Xplor Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Breakthrough Energy and more. 🏊🚴🏃 PRESS RELEASE: https://lnkd.in/e2mRi34i As a recap, our fusion physics allows for a much smaller, simpler, cheaper set of hardware. But fusion is still an extreme sport, and in order to reach wall-plug energy gain, resiliency is a central concern. Century takes that on by integrating 3 key technologies: flowing liquid metal walls, high-rep-rate pulsed power, and electrode damage mitigation. We put the first plasmas in Century this summer and then ran it for hours, totaling a run of 1,080 Z pinches in a row. We’re aiming for a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) milestone soon and then will make improvements and keep ramping up in the coming year. Meanwhile, our physicists are currently at #APSDPP24 in Atlanta with Head of FuZE Physics Colin Adams presenting results right as this news publishes.
