In addition to the data we publish on MNAHA Collections, where we focus on the display and contextualization of the objects in the museum's collection, we want to test publishing some curated datasets on data.public.lu in order to make them more accessible to people who wish to work with them. The first one is about the Jospeh Kutter collection of the MNAHA and its exhibition history. Let me know what you think! https://lnkd.in/dX2c4x9a

Do you recognize the six fungal lifestyles here? This illustration I made will soon be on display in a natural history museum in Germany, introducing the fungi section of the exhibit. It was really a pleasure to work on it, to learn a bit more about fungi, and it will be very exciting when the exhibition is ready and I can go see it in the museum! Stay tuned, as I will share that information with you soon. #scicomm #fungi #scientificillustration #naturalsciences #scienceillustration

📣 Institute Spotlight: Restoring Cultural Context 📣 🌎 Indigenous Knowledge Systems & Repatriation Dr. Jessie Loyer, a featured panelist at ID:EALS 2024, explains how repatriation helps repair cultural fractures by restoring the context of artifacts, which are often viewed in isolation within museums, rather than as part of a holistic knowledge system. #IndigenousKnowledgeSystems #ArtifactContext #InformationLiteracy #InformationAndIdentity 🎞 Clipped from her presentation titled, “Collections Are Our Relatives: Indigenous Interventions” 📚 Established in 2021 by the Purdue University Libraries and School of Information, the Institute for Information Literacy at Purdue (IILP) supports research that examines complex information challenges to develop information literacy models that enable people to successfully navigate and contribute to today’s information environment.

Ten years ago today, I joined 9/11 family members, rescue and recovery workers, and survivors, to dedicate the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Today it stands as a permanent reminder of those killed, and the service, bravery, and compassion of those who stood together in unity during those dark hours. The 9/11 Memorial Museum preserves an essential moment in our history for future generations, ensuring that we will never forget. Join me in visiting the #911Museum, which will now offer free admission to New Yorkers on the first Monday of each month beginning June 3.

Bertelsmann Supports Jüdisches Museum Berlin Digitization Project Bertelsmann is contributing €120,000 to support the Jewish Museum Berlin (JMB) in a large-scale digitization project. Over the next three years, from 2024 to 2026, this funding will aid in digitizing publishing and publisher estates that provide valuable insights into the history of Jewish families in and from Germany. These archives, some of which span over 250 years, will be made accessible online to a global audience. This initiative is part of the JMB's broader effort to digitize around 1,800 family collections, preserved through times of persecution and emigration. Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Rabe emphasized the relevance of this project, stating: “As a company with close ties to the publishing industry, we recognize the historical and cultural importance of these archives and are pleased to support their preservation.” By 2026, the JMB aims to make approximately 500,000 items available online, contributing to the museum's goal of becoming a central digital platform for Jewish #history and #culture.

📢 There's still time to book onto this #RethinkingCataloguing discussion with Sian Woodward, which will focus on cataloguing in the context of institutional memory (or forgetfulness). ✍ What is institutional memory and where is it found inside or outside your organisation – e.g. history books, Wikipedia pages, trustee minutes, exhibition files, staff memories? How can it help us understand collections and catalogue them better? How does institutional forgetfulness, for example as staff leave, impact this? What can we do to address these issues in the future? Join us to discuss these questions. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e53u22A5 #Museums #MuseumDocumentation #Event

What do you think of when you hear the word taxidermy? There are many ways to preserve natural history specimens, and taxidermy is one of the ways we use in the Museum Collection! In this video, join Dr. Brigit Tronrud in the collection storage to learn a bit more about what goes into preserving a specimen in this way, and how researchers study them.
