People matter more than your strategy 💡 This should come of no surprise to those of you that know me! I've always placed the person in front of any technical or strategic requirement. This week the Bulb Resourcing Blog asks the question, "Have we got the right people to make this work?" "A strategy, no matter how brilliant, is merely a blueprint. Its effectiveness is contingent on execution, and execution is a human endeavour. This reality is why organisations must prioritise their people as much as, if not more than, their strategic plans." As always, a link to the full post in the comments. #peoplefirst #bulbresourcing
Great post. It’s even higher up the value chain for me, Ben. Any strategy that is to be executed must have been selected from a group of potential strategies. The question for me is: which of the strategies open to us is it possible to deliver against, given who we have available right now, and the options open to change the shape of the workforce (either recruit or train or both)? If the answer to the question you have framed is “no”, then you have to go back to the drawing board and pick a different direction. The skills in your workforce should inform the strategy, before you get anywhere near execution. This is the value of SWP.
People are the heartbeat of any strategy. Without the right team, even the best plans fall short!
Thanks very sharing Ben Williams. Very true, the brilliance of a strategy can only be realised through effective execution, and execution is fundamentally a human endeavor.
