A startling three-quarters of the Great Barrier Reef has been bleached in the current mass coral bleaching event, according to aerial survey data released by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority 🪸 There's never been a more important time to take action to reverse these effects and save large portions of the reef. If you're interested in learning how you and your business can help save our reefs, and slow down the implications of climate change, head to our website at https://4planet.au/

INSPIRING CORAL REEF RESTORATION WORK: Reefs of Hope - 2024 Reef Resilience Symposium Presentation - Nature Based Coral Focused Climate Change Program In this video we hear more about the inspiring Reefs of Hope project lead by Austin Bowden-Kerby out in Fiji. This video is a presentation Austin gave at the 2024 Reef Resilience Symposium. In Austins words "Reefs of Hope is the first coral-focused coral reef adaptation strategy proposed for implementation globally. While coral restoration is the foundation of the work, we can not restore a collapsing system until we first stabilize it" The "Reefs of Hope" strategy is a climate change adaptation strategy that works to actively help coral reefs adapt to ocean warming by identifying and cultivating hot water adapted, bleaching-resistant corals, and to establish these 'super corals' on well managed coral reefs where other stresses are not a problem. Further updates from #OceanPredict2024! Momme Butenschön from NECCTON shared critical insights on the Multiple Pressure Exposure and Mitigation Potential of European Seas under Climate Hazard. Momme's talk delved into the complex web of pressures—acidification, warming, and deoxygenation—that threaten marine life and the essential services it provides. He introduced an innovative approach to measure exposure to these pressures, factoring in local ecosystem variability and the long-term environmental conditions to which species have adapted. This work highlights the importance of understanding the interconnectedness of marine ecosystems and how tailored mitigation pathways can address the challenges of coastal and open ocean heterogeneity. A vital step in supporting more resilient European seas.

In Germany and neighbouring The Netherlands and Denmark large areas of the very special Coastal Wetlands of the Wadden Sea are protected areas in the rank of National Parks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of the people living in that area are fully aware of the ecological importance of this unique landscape and ecosystem. But - as many coastal welands - the Wadden Sea is under threat and climate change is one of the largest menaces. The latest data regarding the regional climate change in the Southern North Sea testify a crucial development - the accelerating vanishing of the Wadden Sea.

The most commonly used climate change accounting practices are built to track long-term impacts over a 100-year term. Now, The Nature Conservancy is proposing a new approach to measure efforts over both the short and long-term and address the importance of mitigating climate change in the near-term.
