From Vusi Thembekwayo via 500 Pound Media • Surrounding yourself with the right people is the foundation of any successful venture. When you’re in the early stages, it’s not about high-profile hires; it’s about those who share your vision and are willing to get their hands dirty alongside you. Think of it like this: why bring on a Boeing 757 engine when a tractor crew is what you need? The right team won’t just have the credentials; they’ll have the grit, adaptability, and drive to make things happen with limited resources. These are the people who’ll help you build a strong foundation, setting you up to scale when the time is truly right. Choose wisely. Growth is built on the shoulders of those who believe in the journey, not just the destination. Comment “Growth” if you’re ready to discuss building your dream team!

How is you company similar to a jet? Well… Systems & processes run the company. PEOPLE, run those systems & process. This is the model that large companies like McDonalds, FedEx and others have used to scale. You can add all of the people you want to your company. That will not create long term success. Build your systems & processes first & then hire some rockstars to run them. #systems #processes #mcdonalds #fedex #nothingworksunlessyoudo #jet #airplane #companygrowth #builders

Take a minute to look at your career as if it was an aeroplane… Is it on the right runway? Is it on autopilot? Is it heading in the right direction? Or have you ended up on someone else’s plane? Maybe you’re thinking about that parachute on your back, the hankering you’ve had for a while to escape and start your own business, but that you just haven’t had time to deploy yet. Do you feel like you’ve somehow ended up on the wrong flight path and that you’re heading away from the working life you once imagined? On Tuesday the Corporate Escape Club hosted our member’s Club Café day. Founder member Simon Bird guided us through a creative exercise where we all drew an aeroplane that represented our business. We then listed all the things that are creating drag, taking us off course or affecting our trajectory and then all the aspects that create lift, driving us upward and forward. It was fascinating to review everyone’s planes after and see that many were headed skywards! We had all types, including an island hopper, a fighter jet and a couple of steady twin engined passenger jets! It was helpful to become aware of how we feel about our companies, the potential storms that we have to navigate and be reminded of the need to regularly refuel. Running our own businesses is challenging, but we are piloting our own planes, in control of the direction and trajectory. We get to choose our runway and can make sure our plane is headed in an exciting direction. So is it time you explored the possibility that you could parachute out of your job and take control of your own plane by converting your career into an airworthy business? DM me and let’s have a chat about the flight plan that will take you where you want to go. #corporateescapeclub #b2bconsultancy

TRYING TO BUILD A PLANE…WHILE FLYING …this is what I was trying to say, but got my words caught. As founders, Marisa, Teddie and me are not professional managers nor are we seasoned F&B veterans. Building PerfectTed in this phase of insane growth has truly been like building a plane while flying it - but we are in pitch black darkness, we’re not pilots nor engineers, the plane keeps getting bigger and there are other, more expensive planes around us watching and hoping the plane slows down (sad but true). The challenge is huge. The ambition of our team is incredible. And we are acquiring the tools, but the journey is turbulent (nice pun). Side note - for founders struggling to see the wood from the trees - At my last company I’ll never forget being annoyed because I felt one of our systems could have been better and then Hugo Conceição Silva turning round to me and saying “dude, you don’t realise how much better this is than it was 2 years ago”. I remember thinking that this was BS, but he was so right… success is relative and you need to remember where you came from to put where you are now/going into perspective. Building a business is hard - that’s why most fail and many aren’t crazy enough to start. But if it’s getting complex and you feel out of your depth… it means you’re flying. Now keep building. Okay. I’m done rambling. Have a nice Friday.
