In Denmark, there are libraries ,called The Human Library, where you can borrow a person instead of a book, to listen to their life story for 30 minutes. The aim is to help people #overcomeprejudice. Each participant has a label that they identify with - "unemployed", "refugee", "bipolar", etc. - by listening to the other person's story, the participants are able to realize how much you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover". On life's journey, especially the journey to find the next opportunity, don't we all just want to make Human Connections... to feel valued, feel seen, to feel heard and not judged ?? #valued #seen #heard #opportunity #humanconnection #networking #letsconnect #believe #Linkedin #pharmacovigilance

One way we can better support families is by making it easier for a parent to re-enter the market after time focused on child-rearing.
My younger sister, Ediye Ottoho M.Sc. put a career break information on her profile and it got me reflecting on how much sense this makes. While on this break, she completed her Master's in Nutritional and Food Sciences, building on her prior industry experience and her Bachelor's in Biochemistry. She also birthed and is raising her boys. She currently volunteers at an elderly care home in Calabar, Nigeria, and runs Iyez Brand while actively searching for an opportunity to reintegrate into the workforce. e.g. nonprofit program, M&E, or nutrition officer roles. I hope the labor market is gracious to her. Please have her in your thoughts for any opportunities that align with her experience and qualifications. Thank you.

Passion and Fulfillment are the two major reasons I engage in any venture or project. It seemed like yesterday when I embarked on this journey to play my quota in solving the problem of unemployment in our beloved country, Nigeria. And like every venture, there must be a strategy to approach the problem. I decided to solve this problem in two ways, access to information (job vacancies) and effective pitching (having a well-written resume). I noticed that some unemployed folks possess the right skills and competencies to be successful in their respective fields but their resume sells them short. Some have great resumes and can actually interview well but they do not have access to information or job opportunities. So, I decided to build a community where we share job opportunities and also work with job seekers to get their resume well crafted. And I would say the past four years have been one of fulfillment and results. A member of the group shared this testimonial yesterday on how she got a job after two years of hunting. It was so encouraging to read and kudos to him for not giving up and changing what he was doing differently - which was joining the group. Are you in a similar situation? constantly applying for jobs but making no headway? perhaps you want to change what you do differently by joining our community. Send me a DM and let's talk.

🌱 Become a Trustee with Buglife! 🌱 I’m thrilled to announce that Buglife is recruiting new trustees! This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate team dedicated to conserving invertebrates, using your skills to co-govern an absolutely incredible organisation. I applied for a trustee role when I was 27 after reading about the Young Trustees Movement. As someone building a career in the charity sector in my twenties, I looked at charity boards and didn't see my experiences represented by the people making the decisions that would have a huge impact on the work I want to do. I have learned so much from the past few years from the incredible staff and trustee team and I can't wait to carry on my journey- and I'm so excited to announce that we have reserved two vacancies specifically for young people (18-30). These will be one-year-long shadow trusteeships where the amount of time committed and support needed can be discussed during interview, and after a year they can decide if they would like to become permanent trustees. As part of our commitment to attracting and considering a diverse pool of candidates, we are operating a Guaranteed Interview Scheme which means that all candidates who are people of colour and/or people with disabilities, who share this information with us via the candidate survey and opt into the scheme will be met for a first stage interview if they have experience or training in any of the skills specified. All the information about the vacancies on the board, the shadow trusteeships, and the skills/experience we are looking for, can be found in our trustee recruitment pack: https://lnkd.in/eEufS2wu Please tag or forward to anyone you know who cares about invertebrates! Going to tag a few organisations who might have networks who are interested, especially young people: Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK) Earth Minutes Action for Conservation Generation Success ID: Become a trustee. Join our board! We are looking for: Treasurer, General trustees, Young trustees (18-30). Experience/training we are looking for: conservation, change management, community engagement, digital communications, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), financial skills and business planning, HR, legal. Apply by Nov 17. Interested? Find out more and ask questions at our trustee Q&A webinar. Register online 10 November 6-7pm. Be creative and innovative while in the darkest part of seeking employment. I know how you feel when you're desperate for employment opportunities. I sympathise with you because you face a lot of challenges, from the financial strain of using your limited money to attend interviews in distant places with the hope of securing a job, only to be rejected. You think of the wasted transport costs, receiving feedback emails that you open with a hopeful smile, only to thank you for attending the interview process, unpaid bills, and lack of basic needs. Frustrations from promises of help from friends and relatives, depression from friends who avoid picking up your calls because they know you are asking for money, rejection from your girlfriend or boyfriend because they see no hope in you since you can't afford to support them financially, The pressure from your parents or guardian who paid your school fees with the hope of you getting a good job to pay them back since they used bank loans to pay for school fees, sleepless nights of overthinking and feeling cursed and negative because most of your friends are working in good positions but not helping you. But amidst all that, you should use that time to prioritize other ventures of learning skilled jobs such as mechanics, driving, computer training, weaving, tailoring, bricklaying, talent development, singing, playing football, netball, athletics, and farming. In turn, this will help you to be positive, ignore negative mindsets, and not be vulnerable to others because you will be self-employed with some good money to support you. Keep applying, attending interviews, making good connections, staying humble and disciplined, with your hope alive that one day you will get your desired job and multiply your financial status because you will be earning from your skilled job and the long-awaited job. In conclusion, always try to learn something new, have faith and believe in God, stay humble, and keep putting your best foot forward. Your turning point is just near. God bless you! Ever wondered why your wonderful job vacancy isn't flooded with applications? With the help of London Wildlife Trust, our very own Kerryn Humphreys spoke to recent graduates about what they are looking for in job advertisements as well as the employers. Many thought that smaller charities offered “low pay but good connections to colleagues”, but there were concerns about working for charities though, as already mentioned around rates of pay, but particularly on job stability. Private companies that “do not require/rely on grant funding” were thought to offer a more reliable future and were deemed useful on just starting out, but the length and type of contract would play a big part in deciding to apply or not. Career progression is an important element and “key for job satisfaction”. With an apparent lack of progression opportunities may lead a candidate to lean towards a similar vacancy where growth and progression is a possibility. Passion and Dedication I got two of my first part-time research work gigs while attending to client's. see while in university I came up with an initiative of selling stuff to students as a means to aid my financial situation. However, the venture grew beyond what i could have ever imagined. I guess we can all agree social is a powerful platform when correctly used. On the day in question, i received a call to make a delivery to some office, i remember being excited. One of my favorite parts about that business venture was the fact that i could interact with people from all walks of life. I love learning and learning through some of those interactions thrilled me. The person order one of the products i sold but being who i was i wasnt gonna let an opportunity to make sales pass me by. I vividly remember carrying items not requested with the intent to market them. Long story short, all the stuff got sold. The person was thrilled by the passion and determination to sale that was portrayed that day as well as the ability to show them why they needed to purchase the other items they initially didnt realise they needed. I left that place with job offer, an opportunity to work with them on a research project they would carry out later on in Eastern province Zambia. Their argument was that i possessed the exact qualities they were looking for in a person to work with. Though the project was only for a short period it would mark as my first real work experience. I got to learn a lot of skills that would play an important role in the next phase of my life. Take home points 1. Give every opportunity in your hands the very best of you. you may never know what doors it may open.
