To be blunt: a huge opportunity to improve local infrastructure is going to be over in the blink of an eye. Make a difference - apply for grant funds and bring them home to your community. Join us Thursday at Burns & McDonnell - see Kerrie Greenfelder, PE, DBIA, BCEE, F.NSPE post below to learn more. We are almost three years into the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Kansas has received about $137 per capita. Missouri is at $121 per capita. We’re doing a little bit better than average compared with other states. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve your water pipes, broadband or whatever your community needs. Kansas has set up an infrastructure hub to provide support and assistance to local communities to apply for grants which Matthew Hanson, CGMS will discuss on Thursday. Read more about KC infrastructure trends in my recent roundtable interview with the Kansas City Business Journal. https://lnkd.in/gncr8XC7
Hot off the press! We’re excited to announce that Julie Lorenz, former Secretary of the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), will be kicking off our infrastructure funding session with Matthew Hanson, CGMS on April 4! With more than 25 years of experience, Julie is known for more than just her take on funding, she’s also a national leader in policy development, collaboration and implementing visioning initiatives. We’re excited to hear what they have for us about federal, state, and local project funding for water, wastewater, transportation, and more! The KSPE- Kansas Society of Professional Engineers and MSPE - Missouri Society of Professional Engineers are hosting a joint Practicing Engineers in Government (PEG) Seminar on the campus of Burns & McDonnell. All are welcome, so reserve your spot TODAY by clicking here: https://lnkd.in/gEpuvJKR #engineering #funding #infrastructure #licensure #learning

The rise of DFAN testing has been driven by the need for cost-effective and schedule-friendly environmental testing. To fully leverage its logistical benefits, test directors and facility managers must carefully consider the potential impacts on their buildings and operations. However, the comprehensive impact of DFAN on host facility operations has not been thoroughly discussed in previous literature. In a technical paper, Cassandra Dutt, Staff Project Engineer, provides a detailed overview of the structural and practical implications of the acoustic load generated by DFAN testing on host facilities. Read the full paper below to unpack the insights. https://lnkd.in/dd5q5prE

Last Thursday, our American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida) Transportation Committee membership experienced a master class in transportation vision, policy and approach. If you have wondered where the Florida Department of Transportation is headed and how they're going to get there, wonder no more! Thanks to FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. for taking the time to set the stage, identify the challenges we face but more importantly, describe in detail the ways we will overcome these challenges together. Key to his remarks was encouraging all of us to reach new heights of intensity and engagement in areas that historically we as engineers have ignored. Who best to educate, inform and influence legislative policy at the state level than us as engineers? Who best to lobby for more formula funding of critically important projects that have the potential to drastically improve safety and reduce congestion than us as citizens of Central Florida? Why can't we lead with facts and data when it comes to removing factors from Federal policy that have little to nothing to do with efficiently and effectively delivering needed transportation infrastructure? "The change you want to see is the change you need to advocate for." For far too long, we have stayed on the sidelines and let others tackle these issues without the benefit of the knowledge, expertise and wisdom engineers use on a daily basis to improve our communities. As we embark on a new level of partnership with FDOT, we must embrace Secretary Perdue's call to action which most importantly for me, includes building a "culture of continuous improvement." As FDOT District 5 Secretary John Tyler, PE said in his remarks during last Wednesday's FDOT District 5 Development Partnering Forum, "fortune favors the bold." It also favors those that are aware, improving and willing to engage. I am thankful for the strong leadership we have here in Florida... it's simply not like this everywhere!
