Democracy, elections and European politics with a transatlantic spin

So here I am, minding my own business.... when all of a sudden poll results from Berlin on the forthcoming federal elections in #Germany are in. The AfD has significantly increased its support in the country's capital. This bluntly showcases the political shift in German society, gradually drifting to the right fringe. Moreover, it also calls for a more nuanced look at Berlin. The city's image as a leftie-liberal island is only partially valid. Many inhabitants do not have voting rights, and some only stop by, trying to relive the atmosphere of the early 1990s or even Neue Deutsche Welle... Overall, not a major earthquake, but an intriguing change. Interesting times we live in.
