🏌️♂️ Breaking news! Rory McIlroy, the four-time major winner, has just joined **LIV Golf** as its newest player! 🎉🏆 In a surprising turn of events, McIlroy has decided to embrace this breakaway golf series. His journey with LIV Golf has been quite the rollercoaster, from initial skepticism to acceptance. Let's dive into the details: 1. **The Initial Resistance**: Last year, McIlroy was vocal about his disapproval of LIV Golf. He even used the word "hated" to describe it. The league's partnership with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund raised eyebrows, and McIlroy was at the forefront of the PGA Tour's fight against it. 2. **A Change of Heart**: Fast forward to early January, and McIlroy's tone had shifted. He admitted that he had been judgmental of players who joined LIV Golf initially. His altruistic perspective evolved, recognizing that not everyone is in his position or Tiger Woods' position. He also highlighted how LIV Golf exposed flaws in the golf system, emphasizing the challenges of guaranteeing player participation in traditional events. 3. **Acceptance**: McIlroy has come to terms with the reality that LIV Golf is now part of the golf landscape. While he hasn't lost the fight against it, he acknowledges its presence and impact. The league's tech-infused approach and substantial purse have certainly caught his attention. LIV Golf has brought a ton of money into professional golf, with Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund committing over $1 billion to the venture so far. But one thing that is not often discussed is how this injection of capital has benefitted PGA Tour players, too. The PGA Tour introduced signature events as a response to LIV Golf. These are smaller, limited-field tournaments with $20 million purses. Think of them as mini-majors throughout the PGA Tour season, with the basic idea being that increased prize money will create better events because the world's best players will all show up at the same tournaments. And the early results are promising... Signature events saw a 5% increase in viewership last year, compared to 1% for the rest of the PGA Tour's events. And it's become a pretty decent way to stop some of the world's best golfers from jumping to LIV. Take Scottie Scheffler, for instance. Scheffler has now broken the PGA Tour's single-season prize money record two years in a row, earning $14 million in 2022 and $21 million in 2023. And after winning The Players Championship yesterday, Scheffler is already at $11 million in earnings this year, including $8.5 million in the last 8 days. Even crazier, there are still 6 months left in the season. P.S. Follow me (Joe Pompliano) for more sports business content! #sports #sportsbiz #linkedinsports

𝟐𝟓𝐊 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐛𝐲 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 🤷♂️ Asking the Doncaster Knights lads what they would do if they were given £25,000 💸 We got a range of answers… Even though we have worked in professional sport as athletes for many years, this highlights how different athletes can be🏅 It’s important to remind ourselves that all our clients have different wants & needs based on their experiences in investing, so by having a tailored approach we can help each individual 📈📉 Non of these answers are right or wrong, but we’ve got some ideas that could help that £25,000 go further 🔭 #Doncaster #Property #Athletes #Sourcing

More and more courses are charging advance reservation fees these days, many of which are 20-30% of the green fee and non-refundable. The rub here is that golfers (and the course) won’t know weather until 3-5 days ahead of time leaving these golfers hung out to dry when the weather ends up being less than ideal. If golfers cancel, courses are free to resell and pocket more reservation fees. If a course charges a non-refundable booking fee but allows cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, those fees need to be, at the very least, refundable. What do you think? Let me know in the comments. 👇 #Golf #Golfing #TeeTimes #GolfCommunity #GolfManagement #Values #FairPlay #FYP #Trending
💸 Tee Time Commandment 2: No Advance Reservation Fees – Especially Non-Refundable Ones 💸 Booking a tee time in advance should be a win-win for golfers and courses alike, without penalizing players with non-refundable fees. Golfers planning ahead bring commitment and support, and they deserve flexibility in return. 🌦️ After all, why should golfers pay extra when they’re already taking a risk on the weather? Let’s make early bookings fair! What’s your take on advance fees? Comment below! $389,000,000 Always nice to start a post with a big number! $389,000,000 represents the size of the total prize funds available on the PGA Tour for the 37 events that make up the 2023/24 season, excluding the season-ending Tour Championship. The PGA Tour's event structure has undergone subtle tweaks for this season, with eight events now designated as signature events with total prize funds of $20 million on the line. The Player's Championship commands the biggest purse of $25 million, $4 million ahead of the highest-paying major championship, the U.S. Open. So, where are the majors left in the financial war that has raged ever since LIV Golf came on the scene? Is the PGA Tour's desire to compete with LIV financially sustainable? What impact does the need for ever-greater riches have on title sponsors? Our latest article looks at all these relationships.
